I think he could play, but not very well. He played guitar on Betterman in the Bad Radio days.

He wrote Porch for Ten, didn't he? I imagine some songs just didn't need that extra guitar. He wrote Undone and doesn't play on it.

Basically Stone wrote most of the music for Ten and the songs were arranged to be without a third guitar. Eddie had more of a hand in writting the music for Vs. and all the later albums which is why he plays on more songs now.

Actually he's always played guitar... I've got some video clips of him playing guitar with Bad Radio... But as far as playing guitar with Pearl Jam.. You got me stumped... Probably because he had so much energy back then and he couldn't stand still.. But after Vitalogy he started to settle down....

All the material was there for 10, pretty much ready to be released. Just needed somone to come in and sing. He did bring in Porch though. All subsequent albums he was more involved w/ the song writing and playing process.

i thought of it more b.c stone and mike are so much better than ed that they didnt need him to playin the early days. not to take anything away from ed, he has written some very cool stuff, but i dont think he can touch stone. and mike mccready, is, well, mike mccready.
