Has anyone else noticed the odd noises and small, effects drenched parts hidden way in the background on this album? I think if they had been a little braver, this could've been a pretty experimental album for them.
Help, Help is full of them.
as is arc. you are, bushleaguer are weird, too.
Since we have so much live stuff to play with, the little bits of production on the album often get overlooked, as does some of the layering that comes with playing a song in the studio. What other parts of songs really stand out for you? Some ideas to get started:
Jeff brings the bass in, All Those Yesterdays, In Hiding
The bridge in Other Side
The Neil Young solo on I Got Shit
12341234!
The piano in Low Light
After the solo in Nothing As It Seems, where it's just Stone playing
Stone's 'Can't find a betterman'
The phaser on Mike's guitar in Present Tense
Ed's harmony vocals on Education and Garden

the waves in wishlist
the feedback at the beginning of betterman
the reverse noise before nothingman
the gunshot before push me pull me
piano in lowlight makes that song - live with no piano and jeffs vocals it is nothing
the muppet like bananmanamannow Can't stop intro

Feedback in Given To Fly. "A human being that was given *paweeeeek* to fly!"
And weird guitar noise after 4.09 in In Hiding. It sounds *k-kwong*ish.
Those are the greatest sounds I know.
I really like this thread topic. In My Tree is full of these little nuggets, Mike's guitar outro as the song closes. Also, going right into the last chorus, there's a little guitar feedback that takes the song to it's peak. Unbelievable song in so many ways, and I didn't even mention Jack's drumming heroics. A masterpiece.

Who You Are is a song that really does it for me. So many neat parts hidden low in the mix, especially the sitar and electric piano. I also love the feedback in the Immortality intro. For some reason it just breaks my heart. God.

The coda of Thumbing My Way where Matt speeds up the percussion. To me it makes me feel like the narrator was just baring his soul to the listener, but when he's done it's just back to the hitchhiking.
I can't believe not a soul has mentioned all the small things in Push Me, Pull Me. The sound effects are part of what make that song great.
