The fact that i was the only one to talk about the bass of this song is a warning to the rest of you to clean the wax from the ears.

1. The jammy, bluesier middle sections, a'la Porch and Garden
2. The melodramatics
3. Oceans
That record has grown on me a little bit in recent months. I never used to care for it, now I like it alright. As much as Vs, anyway, which is to say it's got amazing moments and some fairly sizable misteps keeping it from greatness.
But I've always liked Oceans. Of course, the only version I ever listen to is the rough mix one, which just blows me away. Maybe if I actually listened to Ten I wouldn't care for it as much.
Oceans, only really works for me while looking into the ocean. It is almost perfectly in sync the crash of the waves. Even here on the E. Coast. Of all the water dominated songs wrote by Vedder, I think it is the most important and dead on. It is very simple, it is also very simple to look into the ocean, but still very powerful.
Being asked to think about it made me realize that this is my least favorite song on Ten. It's still good, I gave it a 3, but it doesn't really do all that much for me.

This is one of the reasons I ever put Ten on. I love Oceans and I agree with others who say that the production adds to this song - It just swirls all around and builds a really beautiful texture that is accentuated by the bass... the unplugged version is sublime. I really wish this opens a show that I see!

I'm not sure how to rate this song. There's really almost nothing to it except Eddie voice and that beautiful melody. It's neat the way that the bass duplicates the vocal melody from two octaves below as Eddie sings, but in terms of music, there's not much else happening here. I like the song, but I can't really say that I love it. 3 stars.

I used to love this song; as a teenager it seemed like a very romantic and touching ballad. Nowadays it just seems boring and trite. Catch me in the right mood and I might enjoy it, but I haven't listened to it in years.

cool. I was expecting this to be the ten demos but this is different. It sounds earlier.

I used to just like this song. But since having it be the opener 2 times in WPB, I've grown to believe Ed sings this song for us surfers in the audience.
