this was a 3.5 star song until I saw it live - 5 stars for the 2003 tour. I doubt they'd be able to put that much energy into the song now though.

This came up on the Sydney 11/18/06 boot and I was surprised at how much heart Ed poured into it. Generally I prefer "RVM" and "MFC" as "escape via car" songs, because their respective gallops suggest that there might actually be something better at the other end of the trip. Despite the triumphant chorus, "Gone" just sounds exhausted, like the singer doesn't entirely buy into the idea that anything's really going to be any different once he "gets out of this town." But there have definitely been live renditions where this kind of thing ends up taking on an appeal all its own. Definitely a lesser "S/T" song, but not without its merits.

oops, thought this was 1/2 Full....that case I would give this 3 stars.
