I thought it sounded great, and totally went with the stuff going on in the episode. I love that song, and Friday Night Lights used it beautifully.

It rubbed me well at first, but the acting was....
It would have worked better if they just kept the actors silent and let the song play without talking on top. Just surprised they gave permission for an O.C. style drama to use their song.

My opinion means nothing. So with that out of the way, Friday Night Lights imo is not the standard WB hot teens show it came across as. It is easily my favorite show in recent memory (Sports Night, Carnivale, etc). Anyways, to hear a truly fantastic song fit in perfectly to this wonderful show was a spot on compliment. I was there when people cringed at YL during friends and i agree it was out of place. But this was a perfectly placed song, played it its entirety. And whether you agree w/ the boys having a tune played on network tv or not, its hard to find better placement than this scene. Anyways, flame on but know that theres a longtime fan who watches all of 3 shows this season who applauds this move. Cheers.

-Chris

p.s. this show will be cancelled shortly (re: Sports Night, Carnivale, etc)

p.p.s W.G. Snuffy Walden did the music for FNL along w/ 5 of the show ive liked, and i must say the backdrop soundtrack of this show is as much a reason i love it as anything, and this is the first full label artist song they've chosen to play if memory serves me... (granted listening on a snobby 5.1 dd system).

I don't have a problem with what they've done. It kind of goes hand in hand with the Hawaii package for sale.

PJ uses a different business model than the one they used back when they were fighting Ticketmaster. Not a better model or worse, just different.

Cept this particular fan has a problem w/ a model that affects fans directly. Granted thats prolly a bit biased, but when it affects rows i take offense. And thats someone who could save enough pennies to afford the package if it came down to it. Also a fan w. a 14xxxx fan # whose enjoyed nice seats.

Get over yourself. If you're offended by what row you're sitting in, for one show out of, what, 50, then you should put some of that anger to better use than complaining about it here. Maybe fighting censorship in China or something.

i think its cool that the band is exposed to another generation of fans who watch that show, but i cringe at the thought of the song being associated with texas high school football. i thought they were done with whoring themselves out for clive davis.

Peeps, you are a comedian. Seriously if you have watched all 3 episodes and did not like how it played out last night with Pearl Jam, I would like to hear of the person. It is not a WB drama. It is a primetime drama with a very high budget and it shows. Good work NBC(for a change).

my crack was more towards the fact that its doing so shitty in ratings

I don't know this show, but I'm always happy to hear they are getting exposure. Appearing in a TV show is like appearing in a movie. Very different from appearing in a commerical

4 rows would knock you back 15-20 feet, but you're not even going to the show - why bother bitching?

My comment was in response to Tylers point that a show using their song is the same thing as the Hawaii package, which i simply disagreed with. I'm not up in arms with the row saving, they have the right to do whatever they'd like. I was just saying i dont think it goes "hand in hand" with a song on a television show. No worries, i'm over myself.
