There's always the option of hounding every PJ online community as this "Lion" character did to get so many people to take part in these polls, but I can tell you, that wouldn't get you anywhere.

Well, Cantrell and Kim are great guitarists burt Cobain sucked ass. He was a great song writter and came up some solid riffs but one of the greatest grunge guitarists is rediculous. Oh well another list that doesnt make any sense, go figure.

Again he came up with good if not great riffs at times but he wasnt a great guitarist as in skill. He was brilliant with arrangements and lyrics though, and I love Nirvana. Of course this is also my opinion so get off my back.

From what I see ... no one said Kurt was a great guitarist. They said he was a grunge icon. He'd better be the number 1 grunge icon!

I've been playing the guitar for about a year, and can easily play Kurts riffs, Kurt was far from a great guitarist.

If this didn't have anything to do with guitar why would it be in guitar world and why wouldnt they have picked Eddie instead of Mike, Chris instead of Kim and Layne instead of Cantrell?

Well in a continuing attempt to explain why Cobain would win out despite not having written any difficult guitar music, I have two theories.

1) His music, though not difficult, was madly popular and influential.
2) I go back again to the word "ICON" which does not denote talent as much as a societal/historial/cultural standing.

Just because it's easy to play his songs doesn't mean it's easy to write his songs. The guy had a knack for writting really cool tunes, and his style was that of an anti-guitar god (ie. his playing was all over the place, sloppy at times, but damn creative)
He was the only guitarist in the most popular and influential band of the 90's, of course he's listed as #1 grunge guitar icon!
