the most underated pearl jam song. I was driving home lastnight cranking this song and thinking how great of tune it is. It hardly ever gets mentioned or played live. Stone seems to be really proud of it, but yet they barely play it. Is it because Ed can't hit the In Hiiiiiiiiding part? I dont want this to turn into a thread about vedders voice. More of an appreciation for this song. Please discuss.

being that he hits it every time they play it, I would say no.. It's a great song IMHO, but it its one of the songs that isn't a huge rocker and it can slow a pace of a concert much like dissident.

while i agree that it might slow down the pace a bit, i think it would work great to be played in the middle of one of the encores, give the crowd time to breath, and to gear up for a big finish

I think they have a lot of 'under-rated' material.

But I love In Hiding..

I think In Hiding, along with other slower ones like the new In My Tree, Faithfull and Wishlist do slow the pace of a concert, but add a layer of warmth and texture that I really loved about the L@TG DVD.. In Hiding kicks ass when you crank it on your headphones and just tune out..

it ends and you're like....ok now what...i'm feeling nice and warm and don't want Animal, you're vulnerable and Eddie has to come down and give you a hug and shit...you see how this could cause problems

With all due respect, Ed doesn't HIT the note in concert very often. He sings it, but I've only heard him really HIT it a couple of times live.

It's still one of my favorite songs, and I'm always happy to hear it played live.

defintely would make someone feel special to have heard it live when we all know it is not played that much, regardless of how it affects pace

The boots I have with in hiding, charlotte and Uniondale he nailed it. I also saw it live in Portland in 98 and it sounded great.

I was just listening to Yield (I'm on wishlist now, second time around tonight), and I have to agree with you. This song just does not get enough appreciation.

Absolutely breathtaking song, it just knocks me off my feet when i hear it. Listen to the Uniondale '03 version.....Ed NAILS the notes and its probably the tightest version i've heard. Just wonderful!

Check out Oslo 00. I'm definitively biased, but the performance of In Hiding was superb that night.

Considering the name I've chosen to post under, I obviously agree that this is a greatly underrated song....Pearl Jam does have many songs like this that seem to fall under the radar.

The signature I use may be one of the more simple lines that Ed has written but also one of the more powerful. If people would just take a second and thing about things in a different way then they normally do, they would be able to solve whatever is going on in their lives so much easier.

I love this tune! No question about it. One of my faves off of Yield, and I've never heard it live before, which blows but I'm hoping the tour next year fixes that!

I made a CD recently for a non PJ person (hoping to convert) and this was one of the songs I put on it.

It does not get enough credit, I agree. But I think the most underrated song is:

but, seriously, it was one of my first favorite PJ songs. that mtv special about 20 months ago i've talked about, the one that triggered my PJ addiction, it showed an interview with Ed by the time Yield was being released (i thought it was in the SVT but it isn't, he's got the weirdest hair, after the mohawk and the platinum blond) and he was talking about the album and In Hiding was playing on the background and i fell in love with the song. it became even more interesting when i found out that it was inspired by Bukovsky, a russian writer who believed in being permanently drunk, and even more fun because there's a bar/club named Bukovsky in my city and there's a picture of the guy on the wall, and all, and sometimes i'm there, five o'clock in the morning, wishing i had drunk a little more, sitting at some corner wondering about the insignificance (oh, that's another song...) of existence and then i remember PJ and start humming In Hiding to myself. really refreshing. it’s a special song to me.

I think In Hiding is waaay underrated, and I think the whole pacing thing is slightly overrated. Messing up a concert's pacing would be more like sticking Off He Goes as song #4 right between Corduroy and Hail Hail. Pearl Jam has a lot of mid tempo songs that are perfectly suited for mid-set or at certain spots in the encore. In fact, Alive is a total mid-tempo song, but because it is a PJ classic and a favorite singalong, nobody would ever say it throws off a show's 'pacing'. In Hiding is a fantastic song that is great in concert, and I was really disappointed that it was rarely played in '03.
