Rise is far better than Guaranteed. But nice to be nominated nonetheless

Guaranteed is a better recap of the entire movie.

With the Grammy nom and the Golden Globe nom, it seems likely he'll get an Oscar nom for Guaranteed, too. That'd be cool since he might then perform it at the show.

At this point I'd be stunned if Ed didn't get an Oscar nomination. I just hope he performs even if the film gets shut out like it did here. I can't believe he was the only nominations the film received.

But back to the GG...I think Ed has a pretty good chance of winning. I think Falling Slowly will win the Oscar but since it got shut out here Ed might be the favorite to win the GG :?

Congratulations to Eddie.

Songs are performed only on the Oscar telecast, right? Am I mistaken in thinking that the Golden Globes don't feature musical performances? And what about the writer's strike? Hasn't there been some talk of some of these awards shows not even happening?

You're right. There are no musical performances at the Golden Globes. Just an acceptance speech.

The award show will happen. The question is, will anyone show up? The Hollywood Foreign Press, the group who puts on the GG, are waiting for approval from the Writer's Guild to hire writers for the show. If they grant them a waiver, the show will continue w/ very little fanfare. If they deny them a waiver & the HFP goes ahead with the show anyway, very few performers would show up for the ceremony. Not many people would feel comfortable crossing the picket line.

Congrats to Mr. Vedder. I think they picked the wrong song, but that's my own personal beef.

I kind of thought that too, but as it was pointed out, "Guaranteed" basically epitomizes the film. While "Hard Sun" would've been my pick, I don't think covers count. "Society" would've been a good choice though.

It's being discussed OT under Oscar, but this is a different thread.

Yeah, covers don't work well for SONGWRITING awards.

They would if they're by Jimmy Page.

Oh, I see ... my eye wasn't catching the difference between "Grammy" and "Golden Globe."
