I voted for Sometimes but SoLaT was the first song I thought of.
groetjes,

i went with sometimes. faithful and marker are just a notch below it.

personally I like sometimes over the other two. it has a great theme of faith without it being about faith as a use as an opiate, and more as a driving force. the song just seems to strike a more personal chord.
they all touch on different angles of faith very nicely, all of the songs have great lyrics and music. its hard to really say any of the songs are better than eachother.

Marker is in my top 2 from Avocado, but it isn't quite good enough here. I love the lyrics, it's one of the best choruses Ed has ever written. God, what do you say? Fucking amazing.
Sometimes is overrated, I think. It's good, but it's not the kind of song I can listen to every day. It's notable for me because PJ rarely does such fragile little pieces of music... Soon Forget is the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head; everything else has a lot more force behind it. But I can't vote for Sometimes. It's too vague.
So it's Faithfull. Here's why. My first bootleg was #3 from 2000, and it included a really strong version of the song. I always dug it, and (combined with hearing what GtF and DtE sounded like live) I started to think I was really underselling Yield. But the real reason I'm voting for this song is the line "The (wo)man upstairs is used to all of this noise/ I'm through with screaming." It's sort of the opposite of Marker in the Sand... why make noise when nothing's gonna hear it? Also, after I got done with cancer, I was missing half a lung and my vocal cords were seriously damaged. So I can't make any noise louder than what one would call an "inside voice". I'm literally through with screaming. And that's why I'm voting for Faithfull.

i really dont think its "you are, you are a furry thing". It's obviously "you are, you are evuuurything"
and i vote faithfull
I always thought that, but the furry thing actually makes sense... I mentioned it in the Faithful thread (I think). The furry thing refers to the fact that the person he loves is tangible and he knows he can believe in that because she's there, as opposed to God, who may or may not be. It kind of fits in with Stip's interpretation.
Anyway... I picked Faithful BARELY over MITS because I don't like not deciding.
you're right the furry thing is not there and never was. Marker is amazing, my favorite on the album both musically and lyrically. The drums and the chorus just make me cream my shorts. Faithfull is great too but Marker has to be the winner.
