Who is better in your mind? I think the PJ fanboys n' girls will of course say Mike but for the serious people and musicians I know you'll say Yngwie is a lot better. One thing that bothers me a lot about tons of American guitarists is they play with next to no melody, it ends up ruining a lot of the songs. Shred wise if anyone says Mike is better you're simply high, put down the marijuana and listen again. Thank you.

I beg to differ actually. Listen to Judas or Icarus' Dream Suite op. 4

Yngwie is an egotistical ass hat. I dont care how many notes his fat ass can squeez out in a second. If there is any musician i'd like to see pull a "Randy Rhodes" or a "Lynard Skynard" it would be him.

You know, I'm not frustrated with great, technical guitar players if they appreciate their art and realize it's a select market. However, some of these guys think their stuff is so genius and should be pop music and big sellers, and then they whine about it. I'm sorry, but it will not be pop music. People prefer good vocals over virtuoso guitar. This is a generalized statement. I like both, but there's a reason why I like Mike more than Steve Vai and Yngwie. He's got a better vocalist to color the music with.

God bless,

Jared

Yngwie is a much better technical player. Yngwie is a much better shredder. Yngwie plays straight from his brain. Yngwie chops are the song.

Mike is more real. Mike has soul. Mike plays from the heart. Mike's chops fit and enhance the song.

I'll take Mike any day.

Yes, no and hell no.

If I liked Yngve Malmsteen better I would be on a Yngve Malmsteen board. Mike is God.

but i think that not always the perfect technique is good. if it were, then a computer generated guitar player would be the best. there're so many things that make a great guitar player, or any musician, for that matter. technique is important, but how many great guitar players do we know who have developed their own way of playing that would be considered "wrong" in terms of technique? there’s the attitude, the guy could be a sacred monster as a musician but an ass as a person. there’s the emotion conveyed in the music, you feel that the player loves what he does and is taken to another dimension while playing, even though he acts matter-of-factly. and there’s that something that makes you look (or listen) twice, that thing that goes deep inside and changes you, and makes you smile every time. i can think of some of the guitar players (not necessarily rock players) i know who have that something (for me): Son House, Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Page, BB King, Pat Metheney, Dave Matthews, William Ackerman, Jack White. Mike McCready is one of them. like my sister said once, he could play all night long, i wouldn't get tired of listening.

I also like songs to have a solo in them. Not a song that is based around a solo.

I couldn't have said it better. Although Mike tends to go a little too shred for my tastes on Evenflow these days.
