Hi. I am just starting out with guitar lessons and my instructor wants me to bring in music that I'd be interested to learn how to play. I need some suggestions/recommendations from you guitar players out there. What are some easier Pearl Jam songs that I could bring to my next lesson and learn? I looked at some of the tabs from given to wail and Long Road and Come Back look to be somewhat straight forward. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for any imput.

Not For You is simple and really bluesy.

I wouldn't recommend it for lessons, though, just for yourself to work on that all-important strumming hand.

It may be for this guy, but if you are just starting....the shit is hard, so don't get frustrated and just practice everyday. You have to play enough so that you can finger the chords using muscle memory reflex rather than looking at your left hand and watching each finger press down each respective fret.

in addition to the other songs that were mentioned songs like Immortality, Indifference, Smile, Tremor Christ and Driftin come to mind. No beginner is going to be fast enough to play Once, Evenflow, or Hail, Hail.

To practice your power chords, play Lukin, very simple!!!

Some good riffs to try to learn would be Rearview Mirror, Release, & Corduroy

Severed Hand, Worldwide Suicide, Life Wasted and Comatose are pretty easy. If you get the pulloff right release is simple

Good info everyone. Thanks. Believe me, I don't think this will be easy at all. I've been trying to learn some different chords using this chord book I have, but that didn't go too well. Another question.....I have an electric guitar my wife bought for me but have always thought I should learn on an acoustic. Is there any truth to this, or does it even matter?

Absolutely. Learn on an acoustic. You'll learn better technique, and not start in on bad playing habits. You'll get a better feel for the instrument as well.

also; barre chords. if you can pull off barre chords on an acoustic, you'll have no issues what so ever playing the electric.

I learned from electric, one because it was a bit easier, and two, it was more fun, it peaked my interest in guitar more than the acoustic so i messed around with it alot more than i probably would the acoustic. Which made me get better. And i turned out fine. However, acoustic with give you a little better technique, strengthen your fingers and wrist more, and build callases (sp) more also. But ultimately, if you practice alot, it won't really matter in the long run. However, you're are gonna have to get an acoustic and an electric some day. It will make you a better player and plus you play the guitar different on an acoustic than you would on an electric and vice a versa.
