OK, we're one month away for this, and I'm having a bit of an issue with the seeding this year. As you all know, we have 11 new songs to add to the tournament (not 13, as Gone and Comatose (then known as Crapshoot) played last year since they were released live before last year's brackets came out). I'm trying to figure out a fair way to a) fit them into this year's brackets, and b) to bench 11 songs from last year's pool of 128.
Here's my current idea. I would have two preliminary rounds this month.
1) I would ask the community to pick your top ten favorites among the 11 new songs in addition to the 32 songs that would be slated to be seeded 9-12. Then I would get an idea on how to seed the new songs in the 9-12 range. 9-12 sounds proper, as they'd go up against 5-8 seeds in the first round, which would be tough but winnable matchups for the new songs.
2) Then, the bottom 11 of the first prelim round would have to compete with the 32 songs that would be slated to be seeds 13-16. Again, I'd ask for a top ten favorites among that bunch. The 11 lowest songs from this round would not participate in the 2007 tournament.
How does this sound to everyone? If anyone has a better idea, feel free to suggest it.

that sounds good, although shoudln't every avocado song automatically be in, in some capacity. If I read this right (I may not have) it sounds like one could theoretically be cut
Also, I think you've always had red dot in there, but not bugs. Is it possible for Bugs to compete even in the prelims in some capacity?
Have you thought about dropping covers entirely? If I remember correct (I might not) last kiss and leaving here have been in it before (has crazy mary?). If you keep those songs why not add love reign o'er me?

It could theoretically happen if I let it happen--I probably won't. I'm guessing all the Avocado songs will make the 9-12 cut, so it hopefully won't be an issue.
I could throw Bugs in and knock off the lowest 12, possibly. Last Kiss and Leaving Here got bounced in place of Gone and Comatose last year.

I think Love Reign O'er Me should compete.

I'd back this.

not disagreeing, but what if UNC ends up in a bracket with no ACC, SEC, Big 10, Pac 10 or Big 12 schools, or weak schools from those conferences?
that's fine. I wouldn't mind a final four that isn't black, i got shit, in my tree, and immortaltiy. Just for a change

Alright, there doesn't seem to be any real objection to my idea, so we'll go ahead and give it a try. I'll start the 9-12 round next Monday, and make an announcement on TSIS before then.
I think I'd like to hold off on a random seeding this year--I'm hoping that the Avocado songs could provide some interesting upsets. If not much changes then I'll definitely consider it in 2008.

Off He Goes ftw.
the Ten lobbyists will do everything they can to ensure that doesn't happen. i've heard them say they like it less than sweet lew,
that might just be me
