Gonna See My Friend
The interplay between snare and bass drum during the first and third chorus is so fucking badass. The tom rolls leading into the bridge are super tight, too.

Got Some
Opening signature is amazing. Roll @ 2:03 swings from the right channel to the left, which is pretty unusual/great.

The Fixer
Nothing specific here other than that his kit sounds very musical on this. Great tones. Note that his hi-hat has almost been completely muted but the snare has been placed higher in the mix than it normally is.

Matt sounds completely killer on this album. Some brilliant work. To really analyse it would take forever, and I'm tired, so I won't... but it's a lovely drummer's album.

My ONLY criticism is that the snare and bass drum on Got Some seem to sit just slightly too low in the mix, compared to the 3 other rockers which surround it, in which the bass and snare are very prominent.

Other than that, good one Matt. I've taken a while to warm to ya, but you've delivered the goods again.

Edit: I might consider putting a 'drummer's review' in here sometime, would be fun, but I'll have to digest and think a bit more.

More tasty work on this off-kilter WWC-esque tune. Ride cymbal sounds beautiful and clear. Nice snare roll @ 2:18 and crazy fill @ 2:27. Wish the fadeout had held off for another eight or so because there's more great stuff under there.

Just Breathe
Have to assume that he's on percussion, which is tasteful and in keeping with the mood of the piece.

Amongst The Waves
Matt always sounds at his best on these midtempo numbers where there's a sweet pocket to sit in. Bass drum figure during the chorus is so fucking good. Amazing backdrop to Mike's solo. There are one or two things in here that I can't remember MC doing before. Note that the ride is placed in the left channel for the solo section.

Unthought Known
Kit sounds epic. A tight performance that frames the rest of the players and parts perfectly.

Thanks for the MC review. Will definitely listen carefully to those spots you mentioned.

This one is played almost super straight except for that slightly weird midsection.

Speed Of Sound
Nothing kerazy here but still incredibly propulsive.

That offbeat snare on each eight beat of each verse is delicious.

The End
Well left, Matty.

There is a lot that could be said about Matt on this album, but I won't say anything of that - mainly because I rather dislike overanalyzing music. I just want to say is that I've never heard him better incorporated on any PJ album so far. The production plays a big role, but it's not all that. His overall presence is great and he really has a number of moments to really shine.

This is Matt Cameron's best PJ album.

I honestly think he completely ruins it.

:luv: but apart from that one travesty Matt has never sounded better on a Pearl Jam record.

I completely agree. I really really love Jack Irons, but this is the best Matt has sounded to me.

Yeah, he still not the drummer i'd like to hear in the band, but it's just a matter of personal taste, i guess he's decent. :o
