Binaural makes me think of PJ's moodier side. In that spirit I made a new playlist in iTunes aptly named PJ Moody Mix. I've been able to pull at least one song off each album.

So far:

Garden
WMA
Tremor Christ
Aye Davinita
Immortality
Sometimes
Off He Goes
Present Tense
Faithfull
No Way
Pilate
Of The Girl
Sleight Of Hand
Nothing As It Seems
Education
Can't Keep
LBC
Help Help
Army Reserve

Breakerfall sounds... distant and kinda sterile to me. it doesnt have that immediacy that most of their early track rockers have. probably not the best choice for an opener. maybe works better somewhere else.

Of The Girl should have opened the album.

No! It shouldn't! It's perfect two thirds threw, sets up the ending.

Difference of opinion. I think the song is perfect to set the mood for the whole album. Breakerfall, to me, is a good song, but not a good opener.

I agree, everyone wants to put OTG as the opener, but personally I like Sleight Of Hand.

Yeah everyone's different with it, Binaural seems to be the album that we all like to re-track. I have no problems with the way it's tracked really, but it's still fun.

I used to think it needed to retrack. But I always end up liking the proper one best.

I like the original tracklisting quite a lot, though it feels slightly off-kilter, it still hangs together in a haphazard way - but it doesn't have Gods' Dice which is a major downfall, that's one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs.

The released tracklisting is just fine, Of The Girl to open wouldn't work for me. What works to open a live show and what works to open an album are two entirely different things.

I like Breakerfall as the opener. Maybe not their best song, but it's a good enough rocker with those suspended chords and the scream in the beginning. It's short and to the point. A nice lead in for God's Dice and Evacuation.

Breakerfall
Sad
Light Years
Rival
Fatal
Evacuation
Grievance
Insignificance
Of The Girl
Nothing As It Seems
Sleight Of Hand
Parting Ways

That's the tracklisting I thought of, although sometimes I would substitute God's Dice for Evacuation. I think Sad sounds really good coming out of such an intense opener (similar to how it breaks out of the gate after All Night on Lost Dogs), and it's followed up immediately by Light Years, it's thematic partner. Rival and Fatal are kind of a nice hard and mellow section. I originally put Fatal near the end but thought it got a little too down-tempo for too long. I think Evac-Grievance-Insignificance are a great punky political three-parter. Of The Girl kind of acts as an entrance to the more experimental, emotional ending. I think Sleight Of Hand followed by Parting Ways is a pretty good (and devastating) ending.
