In an interview on VH1.com, I found this article on the new movie "The Lookout" with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. There's a little section devoted to PJ.

MTV: As part of your preparation, you refused to listen to any music other than Pearl Jam during the months you were filming "The Lookout." Why was that important to you?
Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Well, it wasn't so much that the character only listens to Pearl Jam; it was me. Music is a big part of figuring out who the character is for me, and movie sets are these logistical nightmares where there is so much distracting stuff going on. I have to put in some music just to keep focused.
MTV: Why Pearl Jam?
Gordon-Levitt: I always design an arsenal of songs to go with every character I play, and I had never done it before with only picking one band. But for some reason, just because [the character's] mind goes in circles, [it seemed appropriate]. Having one voice in my head the whole three months we were shooting worked, and that voice was Eddie Vedder.
MTV: If you win any acting awards for "The Lookout," you'll have to thank Eddie in your speech.
Gordon-Levitt: [He laughs.] I'd like to thank him for plenty of other reasons too.

actually just went and saw this (been at the office since 7 am)
i was going to post a different thread, but I'll keep it local...
in the character's room, there are posters for Merkinball, which is really cool AND big, as well as the Yield NA Tour
there was no PJ music however, nor any other references, and unless 3rd Rock had not said in the interview about the character's PJ obsesison, you'd have no clue he was nothing more than a fan based on those posters.
still, it was pretty cool.
even cooler, and another PJ link, MMJ's "One Big Holiday" opens the movie...

A big part of creating a character for me is finding the general palette for what kind of music I'm going to be listening to. For The Lookout, I listened to only one band, which was actually the first time that I ever narrowed it down so much. I just listened to Pearl Jam. Partially because it's something really familiar, it's something I've listened to ever since I was little. Partially because they're fucking great. Partially because I think it kind of fit the character. Chris is a man's man, and sort of macho and tough in a way. He's a hockey player. I never played hockey before, but I started playing hockey and it's fucking hard, probably some of the hardest shit I've ever had to do physically. And Pearl Jam has that kind of drive to get you ready for that kind of pain. And at the same time, they're really emotionally kind of vulnerable and honest. So that balance, I thought, fit the character real well. But I couldn't exactly say why it ended up that way. It was just an idea I had, and as I did it, it felt right, so I kept doing it.

how was the movie?
kind of depressing. left me in a malaise, even though it had your usual positive resolution, I guess just because the facts of the movie. i'm not sure. if you were thinking about seeing it, i'd say for sure go see it.
