Does anyone know who does the backing vocals on their albums? They all kind of sound like Eddie to me, but the the others do backing vocals in concert.

Im sure its a combination of Ed layers, Band members and the sort. Its all done with multi tracking. So Ed prolly does backup for himself several times over.

What i want to know is, who are the females on some of the backing tracks for various albums? Don't give me no Lip comes to mind. Definetly a female or two there. Just dont see any credits to clue me in

It's mostly Eddie, but I think on Glorified G it's someone else... at least it sounds that way.

I'm pretty sure Stone does the backing vocals on most of the songs, save for S/T, which I believe Matt helps out on.

Nobody knows the answer definitively?

I don't think Stone does many backing vocals on the studio recordings. Most don't sound like him. Listen to BETTERMAN on Vitalogy, LOWLIGHT on Yield or YOU ARE on Riot Act. The backing vocals all sound like Eddie. On WORLDWIDE SUICIDE it sounds like it could be both Eddie and Matt, but the album sleeves have no credits for vocals other than Eddie.

During Storytellers Matt Cameron did the backup vocals for WWS

its stone most of the time. He is the only other band member that can sing on top of that

actually im gonna say its eddie most of the time, save for glorified G which sounds obviously like stone (to me) , live its a different story since ed obviously can't back himself up, i like how matt has done more back up vocals lately (like on jeremy) live. But yeah most of the time its clearly ed doing his own back up vocals, thats how most bands/musicians work unless they're doing duets or have special guests on a song/album, then live they take whichever other member of the band can sing decently and give them a back up part (or in some cases parts of or the whole song, like with what Metallica did with Jason Newstead on parts of Creeping Death, he would at times sing all of Seek and Destroy)

It's funny this came up, because I was just listening to I Got A Feeling, and it's definitely Jeff doing some backup. I was just thinking to myself, "how often does Jeff do backup on their songs?"

Did it sound good? Jeff's live backing vocals on LOWLIGHT usually sound absolutely terrible. He basically ruins the song most of the time.

The Yield version is definitely all Eddie.

Yeah, this is right - ithink the only time that Stone can be heard doing backing vocals in the studio is on Glorified G, Gremmie out of control, and Leaving Here (which possibly has Jeff as well). I thought MOTH and Thin Air had Stone doing backing vocals, but listening again it's definitely Ed. And luckily Jeff's not doing the backing vocals on Lowlight :)

Army reserve and Unemployable sound like other people doing backing vocals, but i think it's just a lot of layered Eds.

Betterman, I honestly don't know entirely if there is any backing vocals on it.. I'll listen to the studio version later on.. Lowlight.. Jeff...You Are, Matt Cameron and maybe Stone as well.. WWS is Matt..

It's amazing they don't include many credits, it's all Eddie with the singing... lol

Well, the studio version of IGAF is a bit silly...Eddie busts up laughing a few times while singing. That said, I thought Jeff did a pretty good job on it.

stone does alot, jeff some, it sometimes depends on who writes the song. lately matt does alot (of course im judging alot of it from live performances). you can tell alot in some early song, glorified g specifically, that stones voice is in the background.

I have been listening to Faithful alot lately, who the fuck is that person muddering in the baground after eddie sings? creepy.

it's just an impression but i'd strongly assume that Ed does most of the job, from No Code onwards at least. on Leash i can figure Jeff's voice promently in the mix in the beer-ad kind of shouting "Drop The Leash, Drop The Leash" chants. Stone's voice is pretty recognizable too.
i have the impression that once Ed came to grip with "multi-layering" his voice in the studio (i.e. putting less reverb in it btw) he didn't bother asking the rest of the band to contribute backing vocals that would probably take a lot more time to track than his. Eddie could never sing well as a lead singer in his hi-pitched tone but being myself a singer, i can tell you it's a lot more easier to make your own backing vocals even if you're out of your comfortable range than ask anybody else to do it. and it sounds a lot better too (on an album).
it just seems to be the logical way to do it to me anyway.
