Nice...thank you for this!! Now I have to get busy on my paper again, after spending an hour on youtube.com watching every single PJ Letterman performance.

I remember exactly where I was when I saw this: at a bar with my friends. I made the bartender put this on the TV, to the chagrin of a couple other patrons. One jackass blurted out, "To hell with this! Pearl Jam don't jam no more!"
About four minutes later he admitted he was wrong.

So what would people think is the definitive Letterman performance? NOT counting the webcast, which performance was the strongest? I'd say this or Hail, Hail from a few years back.

You know what...we will have to wait to see how it stands the test of time, but last years Life Wasted was as good as any. Right now, I'm still going with Grievance, but after watching LW again tonight...its tight and the guys look cooler in it than in all the others.

they were all good in their own right.
the one that will always stand out for me is masters of war. this was on the same night as the first presidential debate between kerry and bush, and it was such a powerful moment at the time. emotionally i just really felt like our country was on the track to change for the better. the performance was very inspiring.

Though it's not my favorite Letterman performance, I know exactly how you feel. If I remember correctly, it was the night before the Reading '04 show, which I attended. I remember feeling such hope that the Vote for Change tour would sway people. No such luck.

7 years ago it was right before the European tour... That started 'next month' and would end so sad in June...
groetjes,
Mirella

life wasted blew everything out of the water, but grievance is right behind.
stone royally fucks hail hail up. BIG TIME. competlely falls behind and hits all the wrong chords, hilarious watching him scramble on the fretboard too...
I remember grievance..freshman year of colelge. Was with my girlfriend at the time, iw as thinking they'd play nothingas it seems...couldnt believe it when cameron riped into that drum intro...
remember calling my buddy afterwards and we were both floored. man, good times.
Freshman year of college. I found out they were playing Letterman on this very message board. I think it was called Sleight of Hand back then. (Come to think of it, I chatted more on PJN back then) but whatever...
I went upstairs to my friend's dorm room to watch it and the people around could care less. But I loved it.

I'd need to watch life wasted again (it was really good), but Grievance just blew me away. I was sooo excited for Binaural after that.

LW was really good but not grievance good. That letterman performance is still the definitive version of that song, and I couldn't say that about LW.
