Wow. This goes right to the 'Big Mistakes' thread.

http://www.amazon.com/Surfs-Up-Original ... 721&sr=8-1

Nothing like hearing PJ on the CD right after SUGAR RAY!!? WTF??

I guess the fact that they're all starting to have kids might be softening the band.

"Surf's Up," the widely-anticipated stylistically innovative CGI-animated comedy from Columbia Pictures & Sony Pictures Animation, opens nationwide on Friday, June 8.

Surf's Up (Music From The Ocean Picture) premieres several brand-new songs including "Lose Myself," from the multi-platinum Grammy-winning recording artist Lauryn Hill as well as new tracks from 311, Sugar Ray, Ken Andrews, Nine Black Alps and Big Nose (featuring Jonny Polonsky and members of Rage Against The Machine).

"We are thrilled to be a part of the return of Ms. Lauryn Hill!," exclaimed Liza Richardson, an avid surfer, DJ and music supervisor for "Surf's Up." "Apparently, she related to Big Z's story -- reaching the top, checking out for a while, doing some soul searching and re-emerging with joy -- and wrote and recorded a real celebratory summer jam session for 'Surf's Up.' We're glad to have Lauryn back where she belongs!"

Surf's Up (Music From The Ocean Picture) track listing:

1.) INCUBUS, Drive
2.) DIRTY HEADS, Stand Tall
3.) LAURYN HILL, Lose Myself
4.) 311, Reggae Got Soul
5.) FORRO IN THE DARK, Forrowest
6.) NINE BLACK ALPS, Pocket Full Of Stars
7.) KEN ANDREWS, Just Say Yes
8.) SUGAR RAY, Into Yesterday
9.) PEARL JAM, Big Wave
10.) PRIESTESS, Run Home (Instrumental)
11.) BIG NOSE, Wipe Out
12.) THE ROMANTICS, What I Like About You
13.) NEW RADICALS, You Get What You Give
14.) BOB WILLS & HIS TEXAS PLAYBOYS, Hawaiian War Chant (Ta-Hu-Wa-Hu-Wai)

*sigh* I don't have much of a problem with them using a PJ song (i really don't, i quite like it), but...Big Wave...? :(

I don't know if this was done as part of the Avocado marketing campaign or perhaps just a more general move to push Pearl Jam's name up into the mainstream conscience again...but using Big Wave is probably not the best way to do it.

You can argue about whether Pearl Jam have become corporate sell-outs because they chose to put a song in this movie. Even that seems to be a stretch, but to argue that BIG WAVE is a poor choice for a movie about surfing penguins is pretty silly. What should they have chosen instead, WORLD WIDE SUICIDE?

I have two Pearl Jam loving kids. Neither of them may be very intelligent nor very sophisticated, but BIG WAVE is one of their favorite tunes. If you were going to play Pearl Jam songs to an audience of 5-years-olds, which ones would you pick?

that's cool, i like when their songs are in soundtracks...

i don't think its anything more than just a song about waves/surfing in a movie about waves/surfing...

the problem with some pearl jams though is this.

they are like the papparazzi...they spend their whole life building a pedestal for pearl jam, only to throw eggs at them and try to tear them down. So this is just more fuel for some.

p.s paul westerberg, leader of the replacements, just wrote the score and sountrack for open season. And its someo f the best work he's done.

Big Wave rocks - i don't want to listen to existential thesis every time i crank a record up. there's nothing wrong with PJ writing a "feel-good" song from time to time. and putting Big Wave in an animated movie soundtrack is just logical; i'm sure they wouldn't do it if there wasn't some kind of ecologic message in the film.

 my thoughts exactly. it's an animated kid's movie for crying out loud, who cares what song they pick. Don't some of the band members have kids? I would have loved it if my dad's band (he wasn't in one, but you get my point) played a song that was in a movie. Would have caused major clout in kindergarten.
