i think this is a song about a kid, whos parents dont show him the genuine love he deserves, so he lives in a fantasy world where everyone does his bidding, but when forced back to reality, he shows all his classmates that he is indeed someone, by shooting himself in class, hence the, Jeremy spoke in class today

mine would be this: jeremy is a janitor who's also an artist who likes to draw mountaintops because its easy to draw, then he goes in a class and says quite loudly: "put you fucking banana peels in the can!" then he goes back home. and his father and mother are arguing about the troubling fact that jeremy is 35 and still living in the parental house and that he should go away sometime soon. jeremy hears that and goes berserk. he goes to school the next day and puts banana peels all over the place while shouting "uh-wo-ho-hohoho" apocalyptic ending curtains

yeah i read an interview somewhere a while ago, where eddie said he had a job as a janitor at a school back in '85 or something, before his job at the "gas" station. apparently he was treated like shit, so he wrote this song in 1990 for the world to experience his trauma.
he said in this inty, that he wanted to preserve the meaning of the song, so he asked that the video for the song be made about a slightly different interpretation. and the song and lyric was originally "jerome" after his alias, jerome turner. but he decided it was not subtle and people would know it was about him, so he changed it slightly, to "Jeremy".

i think the song is about the caste system... that's why he spoke in class that day. jeremy was attending high society events with princes and celbrities when he spoke. he spoke all the time in class, so i think eddie was trying to say that it was monotonous that he was speaking today cause he was always speaking in class... therefore i think eddie was using this comment on montonous speaking to criticize the media, for saying a lot of thinks he disagrees with in a repetative monotonous way.
i think its all pretty obvious
