We've ranted about this before, but when I'm sitting here listening to some freshly leaked Siamese Dream and Adore demos from the Pumpkins, I can't help but think... Where are the No Code demos? Yield demos?? Hell... maybe even Riot Act demos could be alright :)

You'd think one of the band members would've given a friend an old tape with some works in progress at some point.
Any thoughts as to why we haven't seen many PJ demos since Vitalogy?
A huge box set at some point?
2-discs Re-Releases of the old catalog with bonus demo and outtake CDs?

Yeah, Light Years. But nothing as significant as the Vitalogy demos.

I'm pretty sure Riot Act demos don't really exist...
I don't know, according to the recording session guide it was a pretty spontanepus session, with a lot of stuff that made the album being first take and played as a band. Now that's not to say there's not pre-production versions that would sound a little different or possibly be extended...

you know, I miss the days with all the unreleased material that we could find. They have to be out there somewhere.

Pearl Jam in the mid-late 90's was the most bootlegged band in the world. They've tightened up their ship when it comes to passing around demo tapes to friends.

I just read a great article about why that 1991-1994 period was full of bootlegs:

*warning* it's a long article *warning*

Demos are cool and all, but do people really listen to them on a regular basis? Much like a remix of a song, I kinda consider them as novelties, but there are exceptions, of course.

I thought it was funny how matt cameron described riot act as the 'anti pro-tools record'. what a funny program, havent worked with it in a long time. looks like there was alot of stuff left off of riot act, wasnt some of it playd live or as improv (I.E. your true)

Great article!!!

Everybody knew about the copyright loopholes...there were stores like Second Coming and Revolver in Greenwich Village where more than half their stock was 'live import' CDs!"

I spent a lot of time at those places around that time. Picked up Chapters at Second Coming, and 5 Musketeers at Revolver. My other favorite place was The Psychedelic Solution, which sold posters as well as bootleg records. I got the coolest t-shirt I ever had from there.

In regards to Binaural, i think demos of Sad (Letter to the dead), Fatal and Education all surfaced...but that all happened before Lost Dogs etc. That early Light Years version somehow leaked as well...there are countless threads about that here though, i'm sure. The Ten demos are really easy to get hold of...

But, VITALOGY DEMOS? Really? I haven't heard anything to do with those? Unless by these you mean live versions of songs as opposed to rough cuts. Same for Vs as well...

Am i missing something?

There a great number more demos that the general crowd has from the early years. There are lot out there, trust me there is a lot more that has not really been spread....This is fact not belief

What are you referring to Youkan? I figure Ten through Vitalogy we pretty much got everything, even if they were just rough mixes.

So what about the band's options for getting this stuff out? Will it be after they breakup? A boxset? You have to imagine that Sony will get itchy and exploit the old catalog some more.... just like they did with Rearviewmirror.

A greatest hits was in their contract, so it's hard to call RVM an exploitation.

other than the light years demo and release from the ten demos (great vocals) I pretty rarely listen to them. I'm just glad I have them for completion's sake.

However, if the quality was higher on some of them I could see myself being much more into it

i dont think he's talking about the band having a great number of demos that havent been spread, i think he's talking about fans having demos that arent being spread
