Sony Pictures Classics again has a big presence here, with six films among those announced so far.
Highly anticipated are first views at Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There," Noah Baumbach's "Margot at the Wedding" and Sean Penn's adaptation of "Into the Wild."

There are a number of early reviews of both I'm Not There and Into the Wild from the Telluride Film Festival. Neither film is blowing away the crowd, but the buzz is generally positive. Almost no mention is made of the music in either film.

I think i'm more excited about seeing I'm Not There, but i'm obviously more excited about hearing Into The Wild.

Thank for the I'm not there links. I'd read the into the wild ones. I can't wait to see them both. I'm intrigued by the Americana comment regarding Vedder's music.

I haven't seen Into the Wild, but there is a lot of music in the film that is not Eddie Vedder's. I hope that they release a second soundtrack that includes this music. I'm dying to hear Kaki King's and Jerry Hannan's songs. Also, I'm curious about whether Michael Brook plays guitar on any of the tracks. He's also a terrific guitar player with a very different style than either Eddie or Kaki King.

Point taken. The alt-rock preface made me think he was referring to Ed. You gotta understand, the reviewer isn't as likely as us to know who's music is what. He may be thinking Ed but be talking about another piece. I don't think so, but haven't seen it yet and the reviewer wasn't at all clear.

On "I'm Not There"

What's so unique about I'm Not There is that it is able to celebrate the work without sentimentally idealizing the person of Dylan. It finds a way, very much consistent with Dylan's language and theatricality, to show the work as a battleground on which so many conflicting psychological, cultural and political cross-currents are expressed.

On "Into the Wild:

The potential Brokeback Mountain of this year in my opinion is Sean Penn's Into the Wild--I think it's truly a great film--but I can equally imagine it being mishandled or on the other hand, properly positioned and really reaching a big mainstream audience--I don't think in retrospect it's easy to grasp how NOT INEVITABLE Brokeback's success was--the problem here isn't deviance--but the hero IS idiosyncratic and not like the rest of us, in very conspicuous ways.
