Juvenal's thread made me curious about this. How has your favorite pearl jam song changed over time (has it). This is not the same thing as what do you enjoy listening to the most right now. Right now I would probably rather hear comatose than any other PJ song but i'd never call it my favorite.
For me, in order
1-Even Flow
2-State of Love and Trust
The first two were all pre atlanta concert. Once I heard that
3-Satan's Bed
until maybe a month or so after vitalogy came out.
4-Corduroy
Right up until the greatest hits. At some point I was also prepared to call corduroy my favorite song of all time (by any band--prior to that it was world leader pretend by REM)
5-alive (obrien remix). It was a combo of the remix and a few wonderful live experiences with the song. But this has been my favorite since then, which means it is my all time favorite song (as of now)

As I've said before, the song which got be into PJ was Evenflow. It was my favourite song then, and my favourite song now.
It's odd though... as my taste towards other PJ songs have changed my attitude towards EF hasn't. I used to love, for example, Once, but now don't as much. Whereas I used to hate Habit and now I love it.

porch was the song that got me into pearl jam, and for years it was my absolute favorite. Now, I have to say that while there are about 4 songs (alive, corduroy, RVM, and porch) that are always top songs for me, my favorite changes based on whats going on in my life at the moment. On top of those 4 I usually go on a kick where I become obsessed with a certain song or album-at the moment for me its rediscovering vs.

Better Man has always been my favourite all time PJ song, that was confirmed at Reading last year when I saw it live... awesome song and so emotional seeing it live.
Parachutes has to be my second favourite, when I first heard it I just thought 'Meh pretty song' but recently my feeling towards it have changed so much, I am completely in love with that song.
Black and Nothingman. Helped me though some really emotional times, feelings changed drastically for these two.
Red Mosquito... as soon as I heard it I loved it, same with Green Disease and Yellow Led.
I once used to adore Once and Even Flow but my local pubs played it so much when I asked the DJ to play 'some Pearl Jam, but please, anything but Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow or Once' that I got sick of them and they lost meaning (well, they would when you see godshite emo bastards taking the piss out of it or dancing like twats and getting the words COMPLETELY wrong, I mean how hard is it? it's not like we're talking indecipherable lyrics like Cannibal Corpse here are we?!.... sorry, rant over.), hoping to get my love for those songs back soon, but it's odd how my feelings for Jeremy and Alive never changed

Early on, I think i fell in love with a new PJ song almost every month. Jeremy was my favorite. No, it was Even Flow. no, Alive. No, Black. No, Release.
For a good long time Immortality was my favorite. That song really grabbed me personally at a dark time for me. But after that and pretty much ever since, Breath has been it. It's the positivity of that song that does it for me; it's got the reminiscent "old PJ sound" that I fell in love with, but isn't as saddled with grunge baggage as some others are for me.
Also, as much as I might like new songs, as I've grown older I've become distrustful of whims. I might be obsessed with Marker today or Army Reserve or WWS, but a song needs to stay with me for a long time before i really start to let it in to that "favorites" list. (Not that this is something I think about a lot.) Light Years, after knocking me on my ass 7 years ago, is only just getting to that point .

Corduroy was my all-time favorite until about 2000. Then it was Parting Ways for a good long while, and it's currently Down (for about 5 years now).
Out of interest, what attracts you to Down? Just curious.
Everything. The music is great, the lyrics are awesomely inspiring, and Ed's delivery is fun and not overbearing. For me, it's a perfect little pop song that I never tire of.

I will attempt this...it changes all the time, but these are all the songs that have probably been a favourite at some point...
Alive, Black, I Got Shit, Sad, Light years, Parting Ways, Given To Fly, Release, State of Love and Trust, Grievance, In My Tree, Present Tense, Long Road, Immortality, Corduroy, Parachutes, Smile, Down.
I don't have a particular favourite overall...these are my children...or my nieces and nephews at least - they have their own charms and i love them all in their own special ways =)

Shift this track order around and this would make a pretty kick-ass mix.

Originally, it was "Alive". Then it was "Go" when Vs. came out. Then "Spin the Black Circle" when Vitalogy came out. Then "I Got Id" in late-95, then "Not For You" around mid-96, then "Do the Evolution" in 1999. And that has been my favorite PJ song since, although "Life Wasted" has given it a run for its money over the last 1.5 year.

I wish we could do the Mix CD tourney over again. 20/20 hindsight, but I know why my mix didn't make it to the finals. Perhaps next year...

i feel the same way , although unlike with a lot of the band tournament threads, I did think the teams that made it were very good
We should do another one of those pearl jam tournaments. it's been a long time. Maybe I'll start one after thanksgiving
