THE PRE-TOUR: Seattle in the Late 80’s My original intention was to begin the retrospective tour in 1990, and even that was a bit of a step backwards since most of us probably didn’t start our Pearl Jam (and the related Seattle scene) journey until 1991. However, when I began to collect material for 1990 I realized that there was just too much material from the mid to late 80’s that was worth at least mentioning. So here we are – a little precursor to the decade that follows. I will still be posting my items for 1990 at the beginning of next month, so I have about a week to binge on these items documenting the early Seattle scene. I'll post my reactions in the upcoming weeks. Meanwhile, I invite everyone to share their thoughts about this time period and, in particular, post the albums, bootlegs, articles, etc. that you feel are essential to the late 80's.
SUGGESTED STARTING POINT: “Intrigue and Incest, Pearl Jam and the Secret History of Seattle”, Goldmine, Aug. 1993 - THE definitive account of Pearl Jam’s ancestry from Deranged Diction through Mother Love Bone and beyond, including any and everything in between. It’s a long read but it serves well as a starting point. (http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/art ... 2093.shtml)
SUGGESTED LISTENING: 1. Deranged Diction – S/T (post-release in 2009) 2. 10 Minute Warning - DEMO (1984) 3. Green River – COME ON DOWN EP (1985) 4. Various Artists - DEEP SIX COMPILATION (1986) (feat. Skin Yard, Melvins & U-Men) 5. Soundgarden – SCREAMING LIFE EP (1987) 6. Green River – DRY AS A BONE/REHAB DOLL (1988) 7. Soundgarden – ULTRAMEGA OK (1988) 8. Malfunkshun – RETURN TO OLYMPUS (post-humous release in 1995) 9. Mudhoney – S/T (1989) 10. Nirvana – BLEACH (1989) 11. Soundgarden – LOUDER THAN LOVE (1989) 12. Mother Love Bone – SHINE EP (1989)
BOOTLEGS, DEMOS AND COMPILATIONS THAT I'M STILL LOOKING FOR: The Ducky Boys, March of Crimes, Lords of the Wasteland, Shadow, Bad Radio (a rumored bootleg could be floating around out there somewhere), Another Pyrrhic Victory Compilation (1989).
OTHER SUGGESTED READING: “The Art of the Deal: How Mother Love Bone Got One of the Biggest Record Deals of the Year”, The Rocket (Seattle bi-weekly), Jan. 1989 (http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/art ... 0189.shtml)
OTHER INFLUENTIAL ALBUMS OF THE LATE 80'S: 1. Sonic Youth – DAYDREAM NATION (1988) 2. Jane’s Addiction – NOTHING’S SHOCKING (1988) 3. Fugazi – 13 SONGS (1989) 4. Pixies – DOOLITTLE (1989) 5. Nine Inch Nails – PRETTY HATE MACHINE (1989)
DISCLAIMER: Please do not ask me to share copyrighted materials that are not available for legal file sharing. For items that are legally available to share, such as unofficial bootlegs, I will try my best to make these items available but I will most likely be limited by time and technical knowhow. If someone else who has any of these items readily available wants to step up to the plate and offer them via torrents or other file sharing programs, it would be greatly appreciated! Otherwise, just add them to your Xmas wishlist!
In anticipation of the upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations (the Oct 2010 show, the Cameron Crowe film, the Aug 2011 anniversary of Ten, etc.), I thought it would be fun to revisit the past 2 decades of PJ's reign from 1990 to 2010. I'm going to assign every month, starting next month, to a single year during that time span. Each month I'll devote some time to that particular year, whether it be albums, singles, bootlegs, videos, side projects, compliations, interviews, etc. I'll post at the beginning of each month as far as what I plan on listening to/watching for that month, and others are free to join in and discuss their own favorite memories about that year. I know that some years are definitely much fuller than other years but I'll try to balance it out so that each month has at least 5 items to revisit.
PJ Retrospective Schedule: Dec 2009 – 1990 Jan 2010 – 1991 Feb 2010 – 1992 Mar 2010 – 1993 Apr 2010 – 1994 May 2010 – 1995 Jun 2010 – 1996 Jul 2010 – 1997 Aug 2010 – 1998 Sept 2010 – 1999 Oct 2010 – 2000 Nov 2010 – 2001 Dec 2010 – 2002 Jan 2011 – 2003 Feb 2011 – 2004 Mar 2011 – 2005 Apr 2011 – 2006 May 2011 – 2007 Jun 2011 – 2008 Jul 2011 – 2009 Aug 2011 - 2010

What's the deal with the oct 2010 show? do we know any concrete info or just speculation? My vacation bid at work is coming up and that sounds like something I should book some time for.

That'd be insane. October 22, 2010, they decide to play the Off Ramp in a fan club lottery.

They'll end up playing Boston that date.

MSG
I'm pretty sure I asked you this a long time ago: But does your location mean you live in Maine now, and used to live in Mass; or does it mean you live in Maine where you always lived, but Maine at one point was part of Mass?
