I dont think that that argument of "learning 70 songs in 3 weeks" is really important.Any pro drummer is able to do someting lie that.Since i read that Josh freese did some jamming to replace Dave, ive been really trying to inmagine how that would have been.Im sure that guy can learn 70 songs in the same time. And with more technical delivery as well.

Matt Cameron is the most important drummer in Pearl Jam's history. This isn't debate, it's just fact.

lol. jack irons gave the band Eddie and saved them from collapse.

If there was no Matt Cameron, there would be no demo tape to give to Jack Irons. Also, if Matt doesn't step in for the mentally unstable Jack Irons in 1998, Pearl Jam would have been fucked. Being the longest serving PJ drummer makes him the most important.

Jack is cool, but Matt is the man. :)

P.S. Each drummer in the history of the band has been important at different points.

I honestly don't buy the argument that if Matt hadn't been available in 1998 the band would've folded. There are tons of other great drummers out there that would have jumped at the chance to join Pearl Jam back then. Even today too. I'm happy they have Matt now, but they would've found a way to carry on back then even if he was never an option.

Zactly, and their first demo would have been easily done without Matt. To say without Matt there wouldn't have been a demo to give to Jack is kinda ridiculous. I'm a big fan of Matt's work up until 2006, when he started just doing the job, but in terms of importance he'd be towards the bottom of the list.

matt cameron has been with the band 13 years now...he recorded 4 albums , he wrote a lot of songs, some of them have a really different vibe from what pearl jam has been doing till then. He even wrote one of their hits, The fixer...in the meantime he did some other records too, like wellwater conspiracy, harrybu maccage, he played with the smashing pumpkins, cornell , queens of the stone age and now soundgarden again...

amazing career.

Yea, I do not know much about drumming but I think that is a fair effort.

Learning all the changes, beats, tempos and fills for 70 songs in two weeks is a little daunting. I can't imagine its so simple anyone could do it.

Just tonight listened to my first little batch of Wellwater songs; it seems to me that Matt Cameron is actually a very talented and interesting musician and songwriter who is, at the moment, stuck with a full time gig in a band that turns his promising tunes into non-descript bar band songs. I had never been a fan of Matt in PJ, but it's not his fault the band is writing boring stuff these days. Anyone that can drum and simultaneously hold a decent note singing is not too bad at all.

*insert generic comment about how the Fixer should have been better*

So, Soundgarden's Europe tour ends two weeks before Pearl Jam's begins. You figure he just hangs out on a Mediterranean beach?

Remember all those Matt Cameron demos from a few years back? Some of those riffs should be added to Pearl Jam songs. Killer stuff.

I'm just happy its 2012 and in a few short months we'll all be treated to a new Soundgarden record. Holy hell, I can't wait to hear him drum against those guitars.

I'm hardly professional, but it's hard enough to rehearse for a single gig in two weeks.

Yeah, his recruitment was stupid impressive. I haven't gone back and looked at 98 setlists in a while, but might have to do so and check and see how varied they were, especially at the beginning of Matt's joining

I don't think he's the one forcing the band to play faster live. Think that is most likely mr vedders call
