if pearl jam had to replace jack because of his personal concerns can anyone complain about matt cameron? how can you complain about a band that comes full circle and uses the drummer that they used on their demos. he was actually there before anyone else, he is the original pearl jam drummer and it just seems to fit. IMOA.

Matt is out of this world, it's the best drummer of the nineties, period!

Technically he's amazing, just ask some real drummer's (who are studying for it). He put some jazz into rock, actually he could be e great fusion drummer, hehe, pearl jam should make a fusion-rock record where Matt could show off his talents :D

I'd personally call Jimmy Chamberlin the best drummer of the 90's, but Matt may very well have the second place.

I love Matt as Pearl Jam's drummer but I would love for him to quit the band so Soundgarden would get back together and Pearl Jam would have to get a hard hitting drummer again so Ed could quit being laid back.

But I do love Matt C. He is a great addition to the band.

Matt could handle double duty on a Pearl Jam - Soundgarden tour. The guy has forearms made of steel.

YaY Matt :worthy:

Next to Matt Cameron, Jack Irons can in many respects be considered a bit of a hack.

I sure do disagree with that. Jack Irons and the Daves all ahd their place in PJ history, and I don't feel as if any of them are hacks, I think they each brought something to the table that the others couldn't at the time. Who We Are and Up in My Tree can be played by Matt (and he does a damn good job) but the scribing of the drum riff is what's impressive.

I have been torn about this for a long time. I don't think I appreciated Jack and the Daves as much then as I do now. And it's not to say Matt is any lesser of a drummer, he's a powerhouse beat machine with a different style. I always felt like Dave Ab. was a man who used cymbols to accentuate, and Irons was a tom God, and Matt takes a little of both and adds that to his style.

Has anyone listened to Whipping when Matt played it on the last tour? Gesus.

Best drummer alive, in my opinion. He's a hell of a songwriter, too. The guy never ceases to amaze me.

In terms of technical skill and the professional application of that skill over time Matt makes Jack and Dave look a little underdone.

There are probably guys out there who can out-drum him (Zach Hill, Jon Theodore and Danny Carey to name three) but Matt is definitely my favourite of all time. He is flexible, knows what each song requires and gets things done with a minimum of fuss, not to mention he has crafted some of the strangest yet most fluent beats in recent rock memory. I think that by the time Matt Cameron is done he will be considered one of the most competent and respected drummers of all time.

Agreed. He was on fire during the SP 2000 tour. Pay close attention to his style, and you'll see why he's one of the best mainstream drummers ever. I also agree with Matt in 2nd place, his drum-style is totally me. I love how he actually uses his toms for fills, as opposed to Dave, who rarely used them.
