I mean, the bass seems to be putting in check the dude's sanity, like a devil walking around saying things with witness to destroy your what you believe.
It's not the most technical of Jeff songs by any means, but I've always loved the way the bass sounds on In My Tree.
Up until No Code it seemed like he played very instinctively on the songs. Most of the songs from Yield onwards feel like he has spent a period of time to decide on the bassline. Listening to the Ten tracks he makes a few timing and fretting flubs but they add to the distinctiveness - they seemed to lose that looseness from Yield. Riot Act had a bit of this but very absent in the last two records and Yield particularly (where he admitted to spending a long time on his bass parts - Given to fly originally had a much more complex line underneath it before he decided to go with something very simple).

Hey, these exist.
Thanks! I haven't seen those before until now.
I was thinking how when it comes to live sound, I really like his tone on the Showbox DVD, he uses a P bass, no fancy active circuit or carbon fiber neck, just one classic pickup in the sweet spot that really fills what we have in our head as classic electric bass.
