Yeah the lyrics are subpar, but it's a fun little song. I'm hardly going to compare it to, say, Immortality. I love the music though!

Pretty weak in comparison with last year. This is what happens when they rush-release new material nowadays.

1. Love Reign O'er Me
2. Rockin' In The Free World (live with Bono & The Edge of U2)

actually, i had forgotten all about Love Reign O'er me being on that. side B brings the single down by a lot though.

listened to quite a few of the old singles in the last few days, and I think this year is a return to basics.. fun basics: Christmas-related songs, not taking it seriously.

with the exception of Let Me Sleep and, arguably, strangest tribe, none of the outputs were both xmas related AND great songs.
I'll argue that Last Kiss was also a joke (of the dark humour type  ).

so whilst I don't particularly like Santa God's music, and Jingle Bell, whilst fun, gets repetitive quickly, it's fun and that's what it should be.

at the very least there's no Bono killing a great song this year ;)

yeah i don't expect new ground breaking songs to be on to xmas single, not even new ones. but not putting embarrassing stuff (Ujam) on it would be nice.

Well nothing can compare to the Who cover. That was incredibly moving, as if the band was only 5 years old. You never hear Ed sing like that on record anymore. Say what you want about the live RITFW, but that cover was perfect and it holds its ground with some of the other original tunes that were released in the past.

I'm greatful for any PJ as opposed to none at all, but Santa God doesn't do anything for me. Its cute, but not very strong. And Jingle Bells is a cool one off throwaway. The fact that these were released so early gives me the feeling that they were rushed a bit. Maybe if we had gotten something in late winter like usual it would've been a bit more powerful, but I also realize you can't hit a home-run every time, no matter how much fans want.

Considering the apparent effort put into the design, I don't think these are rushed. Someone put a lot care into this. People may not be crazy about the lyrics, but I'm not sure we can say it's rushed. We don't really know the details regarding what was done & when. All we know is we got it on time, a lot of care went into the design and we like the music. Maybe the reason we got it on time was because they weren't on the road in the fall and in December. I dunno.

I forget their schedule from year to year (I can't remember what I fucking did last week, don't expect me to remember what the fuck PJ was doing) but haven't they been a bit busy leading up to times when things are late? Generally speaking of course as I'm sure we don't know half of what "busy" actually is.

That's probably the best original X-mas single. Great music, great lyrics, each in contrast with the other. One's upbeat and folky and the other is delicate and serious. It epitomizes what I personally want in a fanclub release.

I enjoyed the one they did with R.E.M. They can do that again in my opinion.

I finally got a record player! Got it for Christmas and the first thing I played on it was Strangest Tribe!

I am happy with the new single. I love the sentiment of Santa God.

Am I the only one who really loved their rendition of "Someday at Christmas"?

Are people really complaining about this year's single?

It may not exactly be two new Pearl Jam songs (Even though they sort of are), or awesome B-sides, but it's not some live cover we've all heard either. They're fun Christmas songs and I'm happy with them. This is the best X-mas single in years.

I'm happy and bummed. Happy that people are enjoying it and seemingly want cute holiday songs... Bummed that it isn't another "Strangest Tribe" or "Love Reign O'er Me." Now, this doesn't mean I'm losing sleep or anything. I'll get over it.
