what a cool idea for a DVD
I'm not even a huge Tom Petty fan and I can see renting this.

Hell yes; sign me up! I've taken Petty for granted for a lotta years; he/his band is so good, and he's got scads of great songs, but I never really key in on him when I'm asked to name my favorite groups/bands. If I thought about it hard enough, he might be #2 after PJ.
Speaking of PJ, I'd like to see a PJ-centric movie like this in another 10 years.

Exactly. That's the thing about him. He writes with such ease and in such quantities we take him for granted. But he's really massive when you think about it. He's one person who I don't mind owning his albums AND a greatest hits collection. Something I only do for a handful of artists.

The coolest thing about being Eddie Vedder is probably the fact that he can go anywhere / do anything related to rock music...at his own request.
He could probably ask just about any great band out there if he could join them on stage for a song, and they would let him. That's how much people love and respect him. Since this is a Tom Petty thread...the same is probably true for him.
Any band that wouldn't let him do so probably isn't worth listening to anyway.

In Time Magazine's blog about the Toronto Film Festival, they talked about all the celebrities who were coming to make appearances and see the screenings, but the only two they mentioned by name were Eddie Vedder and Jimmy Carter.
