when you win a grammy and say it doesn't mean anything, you can't expect to be nominated for an oscar. and let's not get all up in arms anyway, as guaranteed is not a song most of us would have given a second listen if ed ved had nothing to do with it.

Because you can't get enough of whatever else gets nominated/wins an Oscar/Grammy, right?

I don't know about you, but IRREPLACEABLE is simply owning me right now.

I'd venture to guess that 90% of the Academy voters don't know a THING about his Grammy speech.

I like a lot of music. I love a lot of music. I like music regardless of who wrote it. If I didn't know who EV was, and had never heard him before in my life, I'd think this was a great song. Many people respond to the song in that very way. Pearl Jam has gained fans because of this song and the rest of the album.
I'm pretty tired of the non-fan reaction of "you like it just because it's vedder" blah blah blah, negating the man's work because... oh I don't know why. Because i guess they can't stand the fact that people honestly like his work and sincerely think it's excellent.
They're questioning the song entry for "Once", the film. It might have been created and/or recorded (though not released i think) prior to the final version that appears on the soundtrack and presumably, as i haven't seen it yet, the movie.

Thereby making it not an "original" song? OK.
I have a bigger problem with 3 songs from the same stupid Disney movie.

i forgot where, but I read it didnt get the nomination because the song has to be used IN the movie, and Guaranteed doesnt appear until the final credits. the only parts IN the movie are the parts Ed hums.

gotcha. That seems kinda sloppy on the part of the movie then. They didn't realize that when they submitted?
