PEARL JAM star EDDIE VEDDER was rescued from a drowning death when Hawaiian fishermen spotted the rocker bobbing about in the waves.
The ALIVE singer was paddling an outrigger canoe between the islands of Oahu and Molokai with local singer/songwriter JACK JOHNSON's dad when the vessel overturned in rough seas, leaving Vedder trying to stay afloat miles away from land.
Johnson tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It was a big-wave day and they lost him in the swells. There was no way we could get back to him."
Johnson reveals Vedder was only lost at sea for a few minutes before island fishermen rescued him

The story was released today through a mailing-list I'm a member of. I also checked the date, because I know something similar happened years ago. It's also date December 1st on that web-site.
But it seemed a bit weird since they're in SA at the moment.

I think Ed should get an award. He's been saved from drowning by more grown men than anyone I can think of. He's been saved in Australia; he's been saved in Hawaii. He's been saved across the globe. I think that mouth-to-mouth is just too damn tempting when it comes to this man. Can I save him, too?

I might go gay for eddie. Ask me in a few more months so I can see how this marriage thing is going.

Replace Hawaii with New Zealand and Jack Johnson's dad with Neil Finn, and yeah, this happened around 2002 or so.
Dude needs to stay closer to shore.
Actually replace Neil with Tim, and 2002 with a much earlier date. I think 95? Either that or 98. Ed wasnt in NZ in 2002, and it wasnt in 2001. And it was at Piha beach north of Auckland if anyone really cares...

Here's what Rolling Stone reports after a bit about Jack's upcoming output:
What's more unfortunate--and what hasn't been told--is that on a recent trip to the North Shore of Oahu, Eddie Vedder nearly died on an outrigger-canoe trip with Jack's dad, Jeff. "He took Eddie on an outrigger, and they were crossing between Molokai and Oahu," says Jack. "Way out there in the thirty-mile gap, the boat capsized. It was a big-wave day, and they lost him in the swells." Says Jeff, "There was no way we could get back to him." Miraculously for Pearl Jam fans everywhere, a fishing boat happened to pass by and rescue Vedder.
