Hey,
Should we try to do an online petition to present to Pearl Jam and Apple Computer to get a special Pearl Jam iPOD along with a digital boxed set of all of their songs like the U2 thing that just got announced?

i think it's kinda ballsy to petition pearl jam into doing something. if they want to do something, it should be because they want to, not because their fans gave them an ultimatium.
besides, U2 sucks, and are totally corporate whores,,,, making a new album for commercials, and promotoing an album with a product,,,, very sleezey,,,, but then again, bono sucks the big one (and i mean big)

I am pretty sure, anyway I beleive them.
plus a PJ iPod would be gay
That was me
Although someone else corrected me that one did work for some local TV station changing the air time of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or something ridiculous like that.
I don't like the idea and can't imagine them ever doing it.
I love the colors of the U2 iPod, if I didn't have one already I'd get that one. If a Pearl Jam iPod was released, I'd pawn mine and get that one but I'm not holding my breath.

I can't see them ever doing something like that... although they are creating their DVDs on Macs now..
If I were an artist, Apple would be one of of the few companies I would consider supporting, because their products are superior, and Steve Jobs is so much cooler than Bill Gates.

There is nothing wrong with promotion, remember pearl jam doesn't do promotions, other bands do, also, U2 never taken a cent from corporate sponsor for there tours, also, they were not paid for the apple commercial. they only get proceeds from the u2 ipod being sold

Thanks for the imput.
I think the idea of a "digital boxed set" (full artist catalog) is really interesting,... the U2 thing sort of takes people away from any need for a physcial CD or even a CD burner if they can just pull everything to an iPod.
Having a customized piece of hardware (like the U2 iPod or, as another example, the NASCAR driver phones), seems like a good idea but could be a logistical nightmare to any manufacturer who poorly projects the market.
I think if a Pearl Jam iPod were available, I would probably want it (if they offered a "digital boxed set" that was preloaded onto it with all the bootlegs on it in addition to all the studio recordings, b-sides, etc., and christmas singles,... $349 for it would cost less than it would take to buy all the music on CD, but the U2 announcement doesn't say how much the "digital boxed set" actually costs, only that the iPod is $349 and it comes with a $50./off coupon for the set).
Anyway, I think the entire thing is interesting. Had this U2 one come out in 1989 or 1992 I would have definately wanted it; I sort of still want it, but don't really "need" it (can't really justify the expense other than a nice-to-have sort of thing).
Anyway, I didn't ask in anyone "cared", so for those who don't (care), simply not replying to the thread is sufficient, thanks.

ha! pearl jam totally does promotions.... just U2 is much more obvious about it.... and i wouldn't imagine U2 was paid for the commercial.... i do believe thousands of bands would pay top dollar to get U2's spot in that commercial... what a great way to promote a new album... with unrelentless TV commercials.
co-promotion irks me... blurring the lines between a product and an album where two corporations make millions by teaming up... just think of it was the U2 corp / iPod Apple merger
