I hope this isn't too lame a post, or too repetitive-- I'm sure you guys have talked about your favorite songs lots of times... but I'm making a CD of 10-15 songs for my husband, who didn't really know PJ (except, like, "Jeremy") before he met me. He's seen them twice with me and likes them but still isn't really *that* into them. He's psyched for me to make him a CD so he can get more familiar before our June shows...
I appreciated theplatypus' recommendation in a different thread of the set that's converted some of his friends... I'd also like to hear from others, what are your 5-10 absolutely couldn't-live-without songs?
You don't need to remind me that it depends a lot on the person, his tastes, etc--I'm just curious what the die-hard fans think are the very best...
1. Rearviewmirror 2. Life Wasted 3. Evacuation 4. Daughter 5. Faithfull 6. Smile 7. Off He Goes 8. Do The Evolution 9. Insignificance 10. Corduroy 11. Animal 12. Porch 13. Unemployable 14. Present Tense 15. All Or None
This mightn't flow all that well, I didn't actually check - just put it together in my head. But yep, that's 15 of 'em - I could easily add another 10 though...this is only for my head though, your husband's head will differ...
Hrm, how's this for 10 that should convert anyone with ears and a functioning brain?
1. Even Flow 2. Rearviewmirror 3. Corduroy 4. Spin The Black Circle 5. Smile 6. Given To Fly 7. Do The Evolution 8. Insignificance 9. I Am Mine 10. Life Wasted

This is really helpful, thanks. It's interesting to see, beyond some of the more easily guessed ones, what else people include on a short list. Plus it's cool to be sittin' here in Manhattan and get input from all over the world!

glad to see a lot of s/t tunes listed here. maybe that as an album it doesn't do it for everybody but i'm happy people acknowledge that there are great songs on this record.

For me I'd have to have these ten:
Long Road Wash Alive All or None Given to Fly Not For You Do The Evolution Rear View Mirror Present Tense Yellow Ledbetter
Like others these are just off the top of my head - there are plenty more.

Given To Fly, Alive and Black. These three absolutely MUST be on it. Jeremy, Corduroy and Even Flow deserves spots too. Finishing off with Ledbetter, that leaves room for three more.
Depending on how you want the fast/medium/slow song ratios to be, I'd pick the remaining three from these: Off He Goes, Daughter, Small Town, LBC, Breath, Insignificance, Do The Evolution, Inside Job.

if I was gonna do a 10-15 song list (ranging throughout the catalogue) it would probably look like this
alive Black Yellow Ledbetter RVM Indifference Corduroy Betterman Present Tense GTF Do the Evolution Grievance Sad I Am Mine World Wide Suicide (either comatose/life wasted or Guaranteed if you wanted an into the wild song)

Its hard for me to go through the catalogue and pick 10 songs especially since most of them change on any given day. The one that makes it every time for me is Last Exit.
