What is everybody's best way to study Pearl Jam lyrics? Personally I read the lyrics while listening along. Is that the best way? Does anyone have a better way? I see concerts as a kind of contest to see who knows the most lyrics. If I know more lyrics than the people around me I win.

usually I'll try and read along with an album when I first get it.

I've long since accepted that I'll never outdance warhouse

on first listen of a new album, i let it play through without consulting lyrics...i like that first time to be special, ya know?....second listen is when i start analyzing and reading along....

I don't know why, but this made me laugh hysterically for about 2 minutes. Then I stopped laughing.

I do the same thing, plus I like to see if I can figure out the lyrics on my own.

As a serious Pearl Jam fan I think it's best to act really bored and not sing along during popular songs for the casual fan, ie Alive, Jeremy, Daughter. It lets everyone around me know how serious a fan I am and that popular songs are, in a way, beneath me.

I usually listen to an album 2 or 3 times without reading lyrics before I start to read and follow along myself.

It would have to be a dance in 3/4 though.

I don't. When albums are so new there are no lyrics yet, I try to figure them out. Then, on tour, I sing out loud and I don't have a clue what I'm singing. Just a few good words and lines  After all these years I still sing the wrong lyrics, and I like it like this. I used to know Lukin very well, but that faded and it's totally gone now.
My contest challenge is to recognize the songs as quickly as possible. It worked well in Poland 2000 (second show) when we were the relayers 8) .

groetjes,
Mirella :)

The serious serious Pearl Jam fans are beyond that. They rock out to Alive more than anyone else, because it's still played fantastic  8)

but seriously: my way to learn lyrics is play the songs over and over and sing along, a couple more words each time until I can sing it all. Then, singing without the example is even harder but I never get that far.

Mirella :)
