We didn't get to Philly from VB until 7pm, late start then lots of roadwork...checked in the hotel then ran out again for the Mann centre. picked up a pair of lawn tickets form the B.O. around 8.30. Sat on the side lawn waiting for REM (Modest Mouse had just finished by the time we got the bloody beers), but as anyone who knows me can tell, I can't SIT at a gig, and not wanting to piss off the people behind, I tried once it started to go rocking on the various gangways.. got kicked around by stupid security, before finding a spot of 'lawn' side stage about 30-odd rows where security couldn't say anything
Was dancing along, pretty happy with my spot there, when I see that couple looking at me and coming towards me to talk; I thought it was the PJ shirt I was wearing (having bumped into some fans earlier), but they just ask me if I want to seat closer.. hell, yeah, I thought they like had a friend that couldn't make it..but they hand me 3 tickets I thanked them (looking thoroughly puzzled as to why they'd give up 3 seats), ran to my friends still upper in the lawn, we got to the seats, row P pretty much dead centre, as good as what I got from 10c the last 4 shows! I think the people thought the sound too loud there (I have earplugs, I don't care ), and just decided it'd be better on the lawn, and not wanting to waste the seats found someone rocking (me ) to give them to. Maybe it's to make up for the really shit seats I'm going to end up in tomorrow
Michael Stipe introduce one of their song (forgot which one now) as 'our version of PJ's Betterman' (we actually thought they were going to cover betterman ) and PJ was there tonight (he said they, not just Ed then)...thus highly raising our hopes of Ed joining them.
Ed came during the encore. I don't know REM well enough, and didn't know that song, but it sounded really good...like an idiot I had decided to take the day off from taping..stupid, stupid!! he was wearing the EV hunting cap again and some glasses (not sunglasses..don't ask me what that was about). My camera is shit for concerts so didn't manage to get any photos. Shame Michael can't return the favour tomorrow, they're playing MSG.
