Seems Jeff did an interview with a Spanish skate mag where talks about his soon-to-be-released solo album...

Uh, did I miss this?!

Great news, Jeff is possibly the band's best songwriter.

i'd say he's the most original songwriter in the band - but i haven't heard any Three Fish. a solo album is great news anyway.

Two albums? I didn't know he had a hardcore band. I'd be interested in the solo album, but it begs the question "will he be singing lead on it?" :?

Q: What are you working on now?

A: I just finished recording some songs with my old hardcore band Deragned Diction. These are songs we wrote in the early 80’s but they were never recorded. Some of them are really good. Also to to be in the same room again with Rod, Bruce and Sergio was great. We are doing an album with these songs and some old ones we recorded in 1982 in Montana. I also just finished a solo album that should be out this summer.

(…)

Q: You used to have a side band called Three Fish but you have not released anything in 10 years. Do you still play together?

A: I still play with Richard, the drummer. He lives in Philly so he comes here twice a year and we play together my songs and his songs. In fact, I just finished 10 of those songs and I’m going to release an album though our fan club, probably in July. It’s going to be called aTONEment and it’s my first solo album, the one I talked to you before. We also recorded an album with Dug Pinnick from King’s X that we want to be out sometime next year.

Q: So the solo album ¿is it just something unique or do you want to have a solo career?

A: I have a few more songs more waiting to be finished, so this should be the beginning of something. I would love to do some more solo albums in the future.

I will be massively less interested in it if he gets other people to sing on it.

I don't mind Jeff's voice when he uses it well, like on their cover of I Just Wanna Have Something To Do.

Middle aged musician waxing nostalgic on record:

Pearl Jam's quirkiest, least predictable songwriter stepping out into a solo career:

If that means no Jeff songs on the next PJ album that's great news

That actually is possible. Remember Mike kept talking about 4-5 ideas while Jeff mentioned 20.

Are you for real with that statement?

My only misgivings about the timing of this is that he might reserve songs for his solo record that would otherwise be Pearl Jam songs.

Jeff's songs are always interesting if nothing else - and often are downright compelling:

Why Go, Jeremy, Leash (probably), W.M.A. (probably), Nothingman, Smile, Pilate, Low Light, Push Me Pull Me, Gods' Dice, Nothing As It Seems, Sleight Of Hand, Ghost, Help Help, Half Full, Other Side, Big Wave, Army Reserve...

I'm an especially big fan of the songs from the Riot Act era, they're all fantastic.

I also just got the lame pun in the album title - AtoneMENT. Oh brother...

I'm not going to argue anybodies taste but let's be serious for a minute. Jeff wrote a bunch of nice riffs and a bigger bunch of forgettable songs. Some of those who he pushed for being on albums he said he isn't particularly proud of.
He is a mediocre songwriter. There is a reason his and Stone's side projects never went anywhere.
Take the songs he is the only to one be credited for, they sound like pop rock fillers.
Taste does play a substantial part in popular music but recording companies don't really care about the taste of a small fraction of people. It ends up being a pretty expensive ego trip if you don't really have the talent to put out an album that really is good. Jeff alone wasn't able to write a full interesting song so far and that's one of the most widely shared opinions in PJ's fanbase.

We'll see when is out.

:haha:
Only 2 of those are 100% Ament.

This brought to my mind that usually/proverbially solo efforts by musicians who are in mayor bands tend to be embarrassing

This list contatins some of my all-time favorites and some of my most hated songs in the catalog.
Love - Why Go, Leash, WMA, Smile, Push me, Sleight of Hand, Other Side.
Hate - Pilate, Lowlight, Gods Dice, Ghost, Help Help

No matter what I will definitely be interested to hear a Jeff solo album.
