That was a pretty interesting interview.

Absolutely. Enjoyed how open he was with the song writing process. And intriguing that he admits the style of writing for Backspacer would ultimately not work time after time and he cares to dig deeper/spend more time on writing/style

I'm listening to the rest of the interview now and yeah, this is incredible.

rare to hear him be that forthcoming.

also enjoyed the part about that process not working for the next record.

I don't know if this was just me, but it pretty much sounded as though he was kind of admitting (in not so many words) that their focus on efficiency over the last few years produced songs that weren't as good as they could've been.

What a great interview - it's rare to hear Ed open up about his creative process in that way.

It was also nice to hear him talkin' politics again. The Rob did a great job on this one. Good questions.

Eddie never really said that they'd leave it where it is, he said maybe it'll stay as a live song. (I'd be a bit sad if it never made it onto a record, but I'm glad they arent gonna retire it.) Hopefully a soundboard recording/official lyrics surface soon though...

I'd agree with that. But in a way he's contradicting his earlier self cos in the BS epk he seems to be the one leading the charge on the Ida that if somethings taking too long, it gets dumped. I'm glad to see they've hopefully moved away from that. But at the sake time they spent so long on S/T and look what we're left with?

Great interview though:)

he seems to be saying that this way of recording worked well for backspacer (I obviously agree) but that if they approached every record the same way it wouldn't work (which I also agree).

It does imply he wasn't entirely happy with the end result though.
Hopefully the next one is amazing.

apart from ed saying "they were happy with it(backspacer)".

I like backspacer.

But it's not their best album. Not even close IMHO!!
