"It was exciting to hear Mike say that a Pearl Jam EP might hit the marketplace in 6 months time or so to showcase some of the other songs not on the album, and that Mike himself is working on songs right now for his own upcoming solo release on the horizon!"
holy crap. mc cready solo stuff, eh? i like the sound of that. also, an ep in just a few months, too. w/o a label, i was wondering when they'd start doing this kinda stuff.

Really, this deserves it's own thread.
The EP thing too, but I gotta get in a car and go home.

Even though there is a Happy, Happy vibe coming out of Team PJ today, anyone get a sense from the recent Mike and Ed interviews and the notion of a Mike solo album, a 22-track Backspacer recording session, a possible EP, and Ed already working on new music (maybe for his own solo album), that not everyone in the band is super thrilled right now that some of their stuff got left off the new album (or others' got put on)???

in terms of solo work that the band has done, Mike McCready has outdone EVERYONE with Mad Season. No-one elses work even comes close IMO, Eddie included. Sure Layne helped this, but it doesn't matter, Mike got it together Mike started it Mike wrote alot of music, All Layne did was rock up with a bunch of poems and make stuff up on the spot and sing

If Pearl Jam is more than Eddie, Mad Season is more than Mike.

i'd put Above ahead of pretty much everything the band has done as an album (although the band has a few individual songs I'd probably put ahead of anything from Above).

Mad Season was outstanding, and I think Stone's Brad was as well (which I even prefer). However, I never got into Mike's The Rockfords. Hopefully a solo album would include lots of guitars, and really rock.

will something beautiful like the guitar in River of Deciet be on here? If so, i'm on board......but if Mike can still write something that good where has it been on the last 10 years of studio work?
Will be interesting to see if this is something that is approached with seriousness or a "here's me fucking around, it'll be fun to hear once" kind of thing...

The article says this about it: Songs Mike played were “Gut Feeling” - Devo, “The Passenger” - Iggy Pop, “California Uber Alles” - Dead Kennedys, “Redemption Song” - Bob Marley, “Kids” - MGMT, “The Ocean” - Led Zeppelin, “Fake Plastic Trees” - Radiohead and “Reach For The Skies” - Social Distortion.
