political on Storytellers, about Bush and government?
I never knew he first did this in 98 at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in relations to Clinton and to governments in general. Gives me a bit of a new perspective on that whole thing. A bit.
Well merge this if you'd like Mecca.

it's a bit of a stretch if you ask me.
however i do find it funny still to see couples snuggle up during that song. never really understood how they could take a song about a woman who can't get her self out of a bad/abusive relationship and make it romantic. haha.

Yeah, it's the same thing that happens with The Police's "Every Breath You Take", U2's "With or Without You" and Elvis Costello's "Allison". People hear a pleasing melody and don't think twice about the lyrics. It's pretty common.

i mean, it's about an abusive relationship so i guess it's indirectly applicable in many situations, outside of strictly romantic relationships.

Don't forget R.E.M.'s "The One I Love." I'm pretty sure "With Or Without You" is actually meant to be kind of romantic, though.

The best was in Missoula 98 when Ed pulled some dude on stage to propose to his girlfriend in the crowd, he did, then Ed said he could request any song.....he chose Better Man

Because most people cannot tell what Vedder is saying in songs and all they can really hear is "Can't find a betterman", and it sounds positive. The music is in the key of D and is rather uplifting as well.

Never been played live. And if they ever DO play it live, it had better be damn cool. Too often when they debut a song that people aren't expecting they phone it in and don't even know it that well. Such as Leash in 06.

Leash was great in Cincinnati 06. anyway, you ruined the great string we had going there. i wish we could have gotten a little more fan participation, but that's life i guess.
