The wistful, it's-nice-and-sunny-somewhere-faraway feeling I get from this album is only multiplied now that summer is pretty much gone. I feel like I'll be spinning this a lot in early autumn.

I know very little about the Grammy's, but if they do a 'lifetime achievement' award for the folk category, Steve Earle should win the fucker.

If he does he will be such a weirdo when he accepts it, trying to balance former Eddie and current Eddie isnt easy.

I'll be honest here, that's actually a pretty solid line up right there. If I were Ed, I would not feel bad if I lost to one of those.

Add the Civil Wars to the list of modern folk groups I don't "get."

i gave this record a few spins and, well, it's 'nice' ? there's really nothing to make you want to come back to it.

Agreed. Nice harmonies, pleasant, songwriting kinda undercooked. Very wallpapery.

Totally. you could have it on in the background at a dinner party, it's very safe and inoffensive, yet the same could probably be said about Uke songs, but at least that has the duality of being a record you can have in the background or you can really engage with on headphones. Civil wars doesn't have that i don't think.

Take no prisoners :)

I'm overdue a spin of the Uke record. The boots from that tour are awesome though. They get most play.
