Thanks to this thread, I just listened to the uke version of Can't Keep again from Benaroya Hall. This has got to be one of the coolest things he's done with the uke. It was fucking awesome and I love how the crowd shows their appreciation afterwards.

was never a fan of the uke songs. if they were fleshed out into something they might work better for me, which is why i like Can't Keep out of all of them. the PJ version of Can't Keep is so much better. Matt's drums and Mike's(?) echoing guitar in the background just make that song so much better.
Can't Keep is a perfect example of me thinking that the uke songs are just sketches rather than finished paintings.
these songs hit way too close to home when he performed them. heartbreaking.
I love them.
There are times when I look out over the musical landscape and realize how we are blessed. There are some extraordinary artists out there. This is one of them
F#ck all you people that are haters towards the uke. The uke was a main stay in popular music long before the guitar, and I play it. Let's see you do it. Here's my list of Ed uke Songs:
1) Tonight you Belong to me (With SK) 2) Soon Forget 3) Can't Keep 4) Longing to Belong 5) Black, Red and Grey 6) Goodbye 7) Your True Satellite 9) Brokenhearted 10) ?
As far as Ed and the uke... I love you man keep it up, and I long to hear a solo uke Ed album. Let the hate begin.

What does this have to do with people not liking how it sounds?

simply observing that so many people bitch about anything and everything they can on here. The uke is one of the things that make Pearl jam a unique band. Don't like Ed's uke? Ok, sure. I'll say that, but you don't like the way it sounds? Come on. It's not a banjo. Have some culture. Open your mind up and realize that it is a compact unique instrument that is just beyond excellent when used correctly like he does. Yeah, ok the "Fuck all the haters" comment was a bit abrasive, but come on. Some people on this board will hate anything that isn't Ten, Vs. or Vitalogy. Give it up, move on, and get off on something new.

so people who don't like one particular sound don't have any culture? were you born a prick or did it take years of practice?

You know, I'll tell ya, last time I checked, it was the ones that are quick to call people pricks that are somewhat assholes themselves. You are assuming that I was saying that anyone that doesn't like the uke doesn't have culture, and I won't even entertain they old saying. No, it doesn't take practice, just backing up the thread. I'm pretty tired of coming on this board of a band that I love, and seeing three great posts and then endless hating. Yes, that is having no culture. Let's hear an intelligent argument against the uke. Bring it.

Ram On, a song of Paul McCartney, is performed on a ukulele and it's a hauting song. mister McCartney said that at the time (early 70s) he used to travel in cabs with a uke and jam out ideas because it was so handy an instrument.

The simple fact that you think people need an "intelligent reason" to not like something makes you an arrogant prick. Sometimes, people just don't like how something sounds. Plain and simple.

While I am a fan of Eddie and the uke, I do have to side with chud on this one. There are many posts on here where the majority of the people "hate" a song I love (Get Right) or love songs I don't (most things S/T). But sometimes I can't explain why I like or don't like it, it's just how it is. Anyone here who doesn't like the sound of the uke songs shouldn't have to present an "intelligent" argument as to why they don't. I dislike most of the Boom "organ" songs, but it's just because it's not my cup of tea...
On a lighter note, chud, I figured you were always one step ahead of me because you are on the right coast and I am on the left, like you are in the future or something.

I am in the future. Backspacer sounds pretty good.
