Not as cringe worthy as foo fighters at this years Grammys.

That was embarrassing!!!!!!

Not really.

For real. I'm really happy he said that, and he got people in the audience to applaud. Some even stood. Pro Tools is a cool thing, but look at all the classic rock music that was made with 2, 4, and 8 track recorders based on a few passionate takes until they got a great feel. That's totally lost on modern artists.

What did Mr Grohl say at the grammys?

I finally got around to downloading this. So far I really dig it, even though the ukelele makes the album feel a bit cramped. The lyrics are really good, and I'm glad Eddie went solo to release this kind of thing. These are not Pearl Jam songs.

I understand not liking it, but pretentious isn't a word I'd use to describe it.

I'm not sure it would have been possible as these all seem to have been written on uke, but i do sometimes wonder how this album would have been received had it all been on guitar.

what's a word that says, "this should be a one-time concept for an album and a group of songs that should not be repeated again, seeing as working with this instrument has stunted your writing, although what can't keep turned into as a band song was good so if you're using it as a starting point that's fine, but please go in a different direction with your finished products from now on (re: sea change, black swan)?"

Nothing wrong with an artist trying something different though, surely? it was pretty well received in the fanbase, critically and with the public i thought.

i'd just prefer something different from him on his next album.

pump organs, maybe? more looping barytone?

i think "trying something different" is why i like into the wild so much. thats not why i dislike ukulele songs. i dislike it b/c it does nothing for me. maybe its just the instrument itself i dont like? or the lack of other instruments?

I wouldn't call ITW 'something different' really at all. He's been playing acoustic stuff a long time. ITW and Uke songs come as a pair to my mind. They compliment each other i think.

to me, they are more like dr. jeckyle and mr. hyde

and yeah, eddie vedder's done "acoustic" stuff before, but nothing like "long nights" or "rise"

actually i think rise might be my favorite song, is that a ukulele song?

Mandolin. A far trickier instrument to play than ukulele.

I maintain that if Eddie was writing for Pearl Jam with the same sense of curiosity that many of the Uke Songs embody, we'd be getting more "Grievance"s and "Insignificance"s than "Just Breathe"s. Dynamic-wise, I can appreciate that people find the lack of instrumental variation limiting, but a lot of the chord changes and melodic structures of those songs are adventurous in a way that Eddie's writing for Pearl Jam, in my opinion, has only been on the rarest of occasions.

Either way, I'm not sure what the word is you're looking for. I'll report back if someone says something today which rings a bell.
