that's what it reminded me of. btw, for those who helped in my "what's your least favorite pj album?" story, that'll be up very soon. speaking of which, if anyone else here on the board wants to PM me with their lease favorite pj album and elaborate as to why, and it's okay to quote you (using your online handle), that'd be just super.

nice read. This has been bizzare to watch unfold. It's probably Pearl Jam's fault. If they had just leaked the album those of us who spend our free time hanging out on the site would have something else to talk about.

Hi, here's mine: Binaural. Why? Here's two reasons : 1. The songs. There are some sub-par songs on this album. While Grievance, Insignificance, Sleight of Hand and Evacuation are all cracking tunes (and cracking tunes live, too), the album also has throwaway pap like the third-rate-Hail, Hail that is Gods' Dice. Or the pedestrian, middle-of-the-road day time FM radio-friendly fair of Light Years. Or the clunky, welded-together Rival. Not to mention the abhorrent, boring Soon Forget (Ed, this ain't a solo album).
2. The production. Simply woeful. The day this was released, two friends and I went and bought the album and drove to my place to play it. I spent 5 minutes on the bass and treble, trying to get it to sound right, until I realized the issue wasn't my stereo, but the album's production. 'Muddy' would be the word to describe it. 'Muddy' as opposed to 'sparking and clear'. Some kids argue that this album sounds great on headphones (due to the binaural recording process); I would argue that an album should sound OK on a shitty boom box before it's even mastered. A lot of people listen to music through home stereo systems and car stereo systems-what good is a record that only sounds good through headphones to them?

This is all sorts of wrong.

I liked the production overall of Binaural when it was released. Always felt the rockers flopped (Breakerfall/God's Dice/Evacuation). More so due to the writing. Grievance never did it for me. Wanted it to but it didn't. Insignificance still to me is one of the few rockers that is better on the album than live.
