The Target discs will link to a virtual "vault" of 11 concerts spanning Pearl Jam's career, from which fans can choose two. The band will also create an organic cotton T-shirt to be sold at Target, with proceeds earmarked for the hunger relief charity Feeding America. And in September, a Cameron Crowe-directed TV ad will air featuring footage shot during a private performance at Seattle's Showbox in late May.

"Backspacer" will also be available on "Rock Band" the day it comes out, and Target has an exclusive on an edition of the album featuring access to download its songs for "Rock Band" on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. It's a precursor to a dedicated Pearl Jam game that could hit stores in 2010. Although MTV wouldn't confirm details, fan input is already being solicited on PearlJam.com to determine which live versions of songs from the band's catalog will be included.

This is not enough to make me get the Target version in addition to the 10C version I've already ordered. Chances are I already have boots of these 11 shows or they are easily attainable elsewhere.

good job on trusting the band though guys.
Yes, judging by message boards, I'd say about half of the fans failed on that front. On the other hands, most fans aren't message board losers like us, so it probably didn't register as such a pseudo-controversy. But every explanation given so far has been more than reasonable. Now, if I just found a good reason for some tickets being $75 .........

The 11 shows are actually 11 different mixes of the '93 Vegas show.

On the softer side, "Just Breathe" is a gorgeous ballad based on an instrumental from Vedder's "Into the Wild" soundtrack, while "The End" is an aching love song that closes the album on a startling lyric: "My dear/I'm here/But not much longer."
Hmm...wonder if it picks up on one of those non-album ITW instrumentals that are floating around out there. That would be cool. I always liked those snippets.

I could actually see this being ITW Track 02 demo b/c that has strings on it. Like, Duh! Why didn't we think of this before??

"The Fixer" became the foundation for the album after Vedder came up with an edit of an arrangement the band bashed through without him. "My personal interpretation is that it's about how [Vedder] makes our songs work," Gossard says. "When someone inspires him, he's an incredible collaborator."
Other musical highlights on "Backspacer" include the opening one-two combo of "Gonna See My Friend," a furious Stooges-style garage blast, and the propulsive, Police-y "Got Some," which Pearl Jam premiered June 1 on the first episode of "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien."

Tuolumne was the only instrumental from ITW, not counting the other versions of Hard Sun and Guaranteed, right? Speed Of Sound is fingerpicked, and so is The End. So that means there's 3 EV ballads when you include Just Breathe?
I'm excited for a 2010 tour, but I'm also happy that Eddie's quotes hint at the idea that The End isn't really about him.

No, there were two other instrumental tracks that got leaked with the early demos. I'm betting the second one that has a violin or cello on it is Just Breathe.....

if those 11 shows are in FLAC, complete and unedited, I would have no problem buying 6 copies of the album just to get all the shows and support the cause.
that + 2010 tour = awesome!

Which, BTW, means the only songs we haven't heard yet in some form are Gonna See My Friends, Johnny Guitar, Amongst the Waves, Force of Nature and Supersonic. We've surpassed the 50% mark already. When you throw in the VZ clips and by the time Supersonic comes out with the vinyl single, this thing will basically be leaked for all practical purposes.
