I mean live, i dont really think there is a question about it.. i started in 98 with actually seeing them live more than once on a tour.. and since then i can see a major improvment.. i love the extended jams in some of the songs.. dont get me wrong.. they are not extended as in Phish or DMB which i think are outta hand but the extra solos.. the covers the expanded libray of songs that they shoose from..I even feel that the band as a whole is even more animated and emotional more now than ever

I really like Matt, I say let him keep writing.
I definately think that Pearl Jam has progressed over the years. They just keep getting better and better. I wish that they would cover more REM songs (I think they only do one..."the wrong child" as a daughter tag).

I agree that they have progressed. I also echo the sentiment about Matt. His work so far has left me feeling that either his songs haven't been worked through enough to be great or that the band and he haven't found their collective groove yet. He's talented no doubt, it just isn't there yet

I feel like they have progressed. I remember when I graduated college in 1993, they were the hottest band on the planet, Eddie on the cover of Time, Vs. setting first week sales records. I kinda wish that for the next album, they would say "hey, let's show the world again that we are the best anywhere" and do another album that would blow everyone away, be on the cover of all the magazines again, and show these lame current bands how to rock.

Absolutely progressed. No matter what changes have come, I think that they just get better and better. I'm not saying that Riot Act is better than Ten... I'm not saying the opposite either. I just think that no matter how good they get, everything that they do surpasses my expectations. You can't expect more than what they have given to the fans.

i really dont know. their music has changed so much and it's very cool. but let's be honest.. they need a change. or else they'll release another album like riot act and that would be shameful..

Progressed. Their music is "less accessable" to the masses, but this is making their music become more timeless. There's a lot to be said for timelessness in music (or any art, really).
What would I change? I only wish that they would get the respect they deserve. Us fans get it. I think they're gaining admiration for their longevity - which is certainly admirable, but folks don't seem to take a look deeper into the accomplishments of this band. Philanthropic pursuits, champions of the little guy, good to their fans, sincerity, overall great ethics and the most important - their MUSIC! Grammy for Spin the Black Circle? Fuck that. If people were paying attention to their music instead of record sales, Pearl Jam would be farting Grammys by now. At least that's the way I figure it. More respect.
