Oh man I just recovered from an amazing evening. Yesterday I finally (after 16 years of waiting) saw Dave Abbruzzese in Berlin on drums for Stevie Salas. Dave is alive and kicking! And not only that he is an extremely nice guy! The show was great and Dave`s playing is as good as it was 15 years ago (if not better). After the show he took the time to talk with me for about ONE HOUR He talked about everything - about the broke up - about his new projects... It was really interesting to finally hear it all from his perspective. I won`t talk about details here because I think that`s something they have to do if they want... And it`s history... Pearl Jam lost an amazing drummer but he seems to do pretty well now. It sounded like he will do more live playing now so there might be a chance for you to also see him (don`t miss it!). One cool thing he also signed my VS vinyl. It was funny because i was a bit afraid that he does not want to sign it because just one week ago i had it signed by PJ (when they played in Berlin). I was not sure if he would like that But it turns out that he`s still very proud of the stuff he did there and had absolutely no problem with it.
Here is an mp3 from yesterday where Stevie is talking about trying to get hold of Dave (quite funny)
So here are some pics:
Man I`m a lucky bastard! BTW: I also posted that on the PJ forum but reposted here because of the cool mp3 support - hope that`s ok...

I would love to meet Dave Abbruzzese, Cool Simpsons reference with the "Rancho Relaxo", from Troy McClure.
Btw..
Did it come up whether or not Dave has had contact with anyone from Pearl Jam in recent years, Mike McCready is one of his friend's on Face Book.

There was one thing he said that makes me think he still has contact to some of them. I don`t want to say it here because i`m not a native speaker so i might have misheard some stuff. Don`t want to invent any rumours. But from the way he talked I had the impression that he had no serious problems with anyone except Eddie. For example i read a while ago somewhere that Jeff did not liked Dave but from what Dave said I had the impression they went along quite well. I think a lot of bullshit was made up by the band after the split to justify the kick out but I have the feeling that at that time Eddie was a little Diva and took all the control and that was the real problem. I don`t think that it`s a coincidence that around that time the music changed from a riff oriented style that was mostly driven by Gossard to a powerchord oriented style that is clearly driven by Eddie. Also it might be a bit hard but I think Eddie became kind of a dictator and because the others in the band didn`t want to admit that basically they lost control they made up some shit. Just to make it clear this is my interpretation - not Dave`s words...
In the end I think today they would get along much better. Eddie is not the big Diva anymore and has learned to cope with the rockstar shit and Dave also seems really down to earth (family and kids changes a lot ).

i think dave is fantastic but from some of the stories to come out of that time its sorta obvious that they (or especially eddie) didn't get along with him i mean all you have to do is listen to glorified g, even though its light-hearted its still sort of having a go at dave
but the whole "running away from their fame" really wouldn't have worked with dave in the band and they seem like a much friendlier band with matt behind the kit

I love Matt C. but I do miss Dave A. I think he would have had fun with some of the Backspacer stuff too. His work on Vs. is just epic. Those fills on Go and Animal still blow my mind.
