My views on this are the same as they were when backspacer was just a name
I like records with good songs. Pearl jam writes good slow songs and weak slow songs, good anthems and weak anthems, good fast/hard songs and weak ones. Good experimental and weak (although I think this is probably their overall weakest area). As long as the songs are good I don't care.

Yep. As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind which direction they go in, if they do it well enough. One of the things I love about this band is the variety: the fact that they can give me a brilliant album full of depth and interest (Vitalogy/No Code/Yield/Binaural/Riot Act) or an equally great pop rock album. I wouldn't mind another album in the direction of Backspacer, if it's at least as good as Backspacer itself.

In my opinion, it's time they took on a concept album. 10 songs. 40 minutes or so. Ed comes up with a 10 part storyline. Tells Stone write 3 tunes, Jeff write 3 tunes, Mike write 2, Matt write 2. Wait to get music from them. Put story to music. If he feels somethings amiss with the tunes they put together, her can toss one/two/three/four of em and create his own music. Band comes back. Ed shows them what he has and they complete the job.
Well, that's my dream anyway.

as long as it's produced by brendan o'brien and engineered by nick didia i don't care.
I understood the need for PJ to branch out and explore new avenues at various points in their career, but at this juncture, there's absolutely no reason for this to not be the case from here on in...We can only hope the band concurs.

I don't trust Eddie with this. He excelled with Into the Wild because it wasn't his story to tell, but much as I think he's had great moments as a lyricist, I would expect a lot of cringe-worthy moments on any full-length concept album.

I can't think of a single concept album without any cringe-worthy lyrics... but yeah.
