What do you guys think the band's next move should be? In terms of next album (or ep?!?!)

Personally, I want them to go back to putting some serious jams on record. They've become such a vocally focused band, i think going to the other extreme, and recording some instrumentally focuses music with complex jams would be the best move. 9 songs, at least 45 minutes, yahhh.

I agree. They really seem to have lost the plot since Lateralus.

I think they need to do the soundtrack for the next Twilight movie after New Moon.

make an alt country concept album chronocling the rise and literal fall of Lynyrd Skynyrd as a means of analysis of the cultural deterioration of the South during the 1970s.

Don't even release albums anymore (or for a while). Just release little batches of songs at a time that fit a focused theme. No record label, why stick to a formula?

What's the point of albums nowadays anyway, other than a means to tour? I'd like to see them release an EP of 5 to 8 solid to amazing songs where they stretch things out a bit...Think Present Tense, Sleight Of Hand, and some of those live RVM and Porch jams where each song is 5 plus minutes of killer jamming with some of that weird atmospheric style music sprinkled in. You know, something that goes great with a bottle of red wine and a joint. I think it would be kinda neat and new to just release a fucking killer EP every year or two from now on; no more full fledged albums. Oh, and they need to go ahead and throw the extra Avocado and Backspacer tracks our way in the form of Lost Dogs 2.

To me, that is what Backspacer feels like. But I get you, less but more drawn out tracks. I like the idea. I'd also like a Single Video Theory type release (but with complete songs)

There are no b-sides are there? Do you mean the material which is going on the EP anyway?

I'd also like something like Radiohead did with Kid A. No code had some interesting sounds that could be developed. Could Ed take them in this direction? I don't see it coming from elsewhere in the band, except from Matt who seems to like to move from rock drumming when he gets his chance (You are and Got Some)

I would like them to release some shit that steps outside of their comfort zone. And please Eddie, put down the acoustic guitar - we all like Into The Wild but one of those records is plenty. I'm thinking more experimental like No Code but without the filler (Habit, Mankind and I'm Open) and for fuck's sake if you have an awesome song like Hard To Imagine DON'T LEAVE IT OFF THE RECORD.

Well, we already know they have an EP in the works, so my vote is a remix album. Think "Deconstructed" by Bush... :shake:
