Eddie Vedder is a clown. I don't know when it happned but he became the biggest rock n' roll cliche going.
The aging, balding , fat drunk former rock n' roll rebel. There's really never been a bigger poser than Eddie Vedder.
Is this a midlife crisis? I don't get it. It started with the smoking. It's classic mid-life crisis behavior. Take a crap on your talents and accomplishments and reach for the things that you think you missed out on - in this case he's scrapping the principled dissident figure for the fame and fortune rockstar he passed on.

I'm drunk, fat, balding, and smoking. I kinda want to see where this is going.

I don't think Rock Stars can go through a mid life crisis.
They always fuck 18-24 year old models, from the time they became famous till the time they die.
Why would there ever be a reason to have a crisis?
Yea, Ed wasn't acting like that though thats the point.
hey look with my $48 Tom Petty tickets I get his new CD downloaded for free and CSN opening. If you are lucky enough to spend 5 hours online getting $90 Pearl Jam tickets you get jack.
They are a joke. They went from earnest and serious to a caricature.

What did Ed do anyhow? Drink a beer and laugh with some friends?

Don't even get me started on the lead guitarist who plays shirtless now. He hops on the wagon gets some tatoos and thinks who he is. The more talented guitarist has always been the awkward one. I liked Mikey better when he wanted to be stevie ray vaughn or some bad ass funny fat looking dude circa 98-2000. Now he thinks he's Dave Navarro. spare me
