What's the deal with this repeated imagery in Pearl Jam's music?

Love Boat Captain - "is this just another phase of earthquakes making waves?"

Man of the Hour - "tidal waves don't beg forgiveness, crash then on their way"

Pearl Jam tracklisting - "Big Wave"

You forgot Tremor Christ: the smallest oceans still get...big, big waves...

and Undone: change don't come at once, it's a wave building before it breaks

It's got to be the surfing. It gets into your head. It is hard not to thnk about waves all the time...

Well, you don't surf tidal waves.

Well, that's just a normal wave, not a tsunami.

it's surfing references and NO ONE MENTIONED in Insignificance..."The Plates begin to shift, Perfect lefts come rolling in" and many years ago I can almost be certain he appeared extremely briefly in an independent surfing video which my friend had but now can't find so I could be mistaken, but I'm almost 100% positive and what about OCEANS and GRIMMIE OUT OF CONTROL which is totally about surfing
