Pearl Jam’s May 1st Jazz & Heritage Festival performance will be the first ever concert broadcast live to our troops in Afghanistan as part of the Texas Roundhouse Live program "Homeland Salute to Our Troops."
The broadcast will feature a two-way live audio and video communication between the festival and the soldiers stationed in Iraq. Soldiers serving in the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat team will not only get to experience the entire Pearl Jam performance, but interact with Festivalgoers and share a few words to their hometown friends and family from across the world.
Several hundred service men and women are expected to tune-in to the broadcast.
The Pearl Jam concert will be the first of four broadcasts to the troops planned for 2010. The broadcasts are meant to show the servicemen and women overseas that we are thinking of them and to give the audience stateside, a glimpse of the front lines. as i posted on the PJ Forums, this makes me very happy to see
Thank you Pearl Jam for doing this! I have been packing US Troop supply boxes with some copies of old PJ bootlegs and throwing in there some of my extra "space drummer" Backspacer stickers but this beats that by a mile and then some. Thank you PJ for your continous efforts of making this world a better place and inspiring us to do the same. -EV
